Help selecting new speakers

Thanks for the input. The room this setup will be going in is my basement. The room is 24 feet wide 20 feet deep and 7.5 feet high. I guess once I get back to the states I will be going to stores to listen to different speakers. Once I get speakers bought I'm sure I'll be back here to get help chosing a receiver.

One question? If you go to a store and find a speaker you really like do you buy it from them or do you go search the internet and buy them that way?

Thanks,

Matt

Thats a bit deceitful especailly if the sales person is going out of his way to help you make the most informed decision. If the salesperson is truly good, he deserves your business. I wouldn't do what your suggesting.

What speakers have you auditioned so far?

I read the post of Axiom vs B&W and to my ears, those two speakers are further apart in sound rather than closer. Out of Axiom, Paradisgm Monitor Series or PSB's Image series, I would say that PSB is voiced more like B&W. Thats just my opinion though.

I agree with 3db, if you find some speakers you like in store don't go running and trying to find them cheaper online. Some speakers can't be bought online, so that takes that out anyway. Good luck searching when you can.

There is a sticky near the top of this forum with some advice on speaker selection. I think it is pretty good and you should read it. You should also note that choosing speakers can be either an objective (specifications and measurements) or a subjective ("auditioning") process. The personal opinions of others is immaterial in either case. Buy what you like, not what someone else likes. Sorry if that wasn't much help but I don't think my opinions are any more valid than yours or anybody elses in this area.
