Surge protection..power conditioning..?? ugh

I am rather interested in how exactly the transformer temperature is affecting your secondary voltages. And distortion figures.
I really don't know either. But I think these transformers have liquid cores. When it was installed the temp was 0 F. I did the first reading as soon as it was hooked up. I just did another reading about four hours later, because I just wondered if the characteristics of the core would change as it heated up. It seemed to me that it might. It got even colder this afternoon, so I suspect the Beltrami electric load was high, so the most likely explanation for the improved distortion figure is improved performance of the transformer. The wave looked better also. I will try and check it again tomorrow during the morning peak. The transformer that was changed supplies my residence and my neighbor to the west.

Today has been 6 below and dropping this afternoon. We had about six inches of snow overnight, and I bonded with my old JD Model A with the Farm Hand front end loader and grader on the three point. It was so cold there was a puff of white smoke from every bang of the two big cylinders. Its 60 years old this year, and in these conditions starts first piston up, no cranking on the starter. They new what quality was all about back then.

Any way I think the Beltrami system is pretty loaded up. The voltage is running 115 to 120 Volts. I measured distortion at 5.8% this afternoon. The wave looks good except for some crossover distortion. Slightly above spec. It will be VERY cold tomorrow. The new yard pole transformer Beltrami Electric installed yesterday has brought about a big improvement.

The lower level DVR plus the part of the LLB it was powering was taken down by all this, and has been replaced. There is now a UPS on that system also. The unit powered by the smart UPS was protected from this power mayhem. I think this speaks to the advantages of UPS systems for power protection.

I have absolutely no idea what you meant by that...:D

My disclaimer TLS, I'm a city boy - born and raised. :D Good to hear your power situation is working out for the better.

I was raised a city boy. But since moving to the prairies from the UK in 1970, I've completed my education.

Got it!

Apparently I'm an ENT, on another thread. As you can see I do live in the Tulgey Wood.

I'll tell you a funny story. My nurse poked her head round the door, and said, " I have Mr Doe on the phone. He wants to know how to time his Allis Chalmers." I said, "I will call him back later." I did and successfully talked him through it.

LOL - classic. I've got distant relatives who live up in the farmlands of Alabama. There's an old videotape somewhere at my parent's house of me crashing an old John Deere through a fence because I couldn't figure out how to stop the thing. :D Alas, in my defense I was only 8 years old at the time. :) It was my one and only experience as a farm hand - needless to say, it was back to the city for me.

Great looking family there by the way. ;)
