Hello,

My wife and i have been living peacefully in our apartment until about 4 months ago when the jerk upstairs decided he was going to buy a home theater system to go along with his brand new 42 inch plasma. I've seen it and it's nice but they are inconsiderate about the times they play it and with them on the second floor and us beneath they have the upper hand. We've complained to them nicely more than a dozen times and i think they're retarded or something cause it doesn't sink in!

He's got a sony system, not sure which one, i think it's a bravia 235 or 265 but not sure. Lucky for us my parents have a bravia 265 and my dad wants something better so he said he'll give us the bravia. it should sound fine in our apartment but there living room is huge so he needs more.

But i want to be really annoying now to this idiot upstairs. we've been way to nice for way too long about it.

what i want to know is what happens if i hook an additional bravia sub to the one already hooked up? I know it will increase the amp load. i would imagine the receiver has some sort of shut off protection. What if i wire them in series instead of parrallel? It will decrease the max output but safer on amp. I wonder too if there is a way to just somehow hook up a powered woofer but the bravia only uses active subs, could i tap the sub somewhere for a mono signal to convert to rca input to powered sub.

i'm getting the system for free. the easiest solution would be to go and buy some top end components and blow this ding dong upstairs away but i don't have the money for that. don't laugh at the bravia, it does sound good but i know there is better, there is always better! thanks

Congratulations on getting the new system. I don't think you'll get the effect you would be looking for with adding a second sub for that system.

What I would do is this. When your neighbor is out. Call the gas company, and tell them you smell gas from that apartment. When they open up the apartment to check make sure your there. Bring a hammer. :D

He he :D.
Best. Reason. Ever. To upgrade :D.
I used to have this same problem when I lived in a condo; I miss the days of cranking up Rage against the Machine's "Killing in the name of" at unholy levels at all times of the night just to piss off my annoying neighbor.
Be careful you don't get reprimanded yourself now.
I don't know much about your subs, do they have high level inputs only? If they have a line level (LFE) RCA input it would be much easier to just use a splitter at the receiver's LFE output and run a separate sub cable to each sub.

If I understand correctly the sub is powered by the reciever and not an external amp, if this is the case you can buy a high level to low level adapter inteded for adding an amp to a car stereo system. I believe Radio Shack still carries them, and Walmart has the Scoche brand ones that may work a little better. You can then use the low level output to connect with any self powered sub.

I DARE my neighbor to turn me in!!! Management is on my side as these people used to live below a noisy lady and went to the office so much to complain that they moved them into a second floor unit, right over the top of us!! but when it comes to action in this place forget it, management to darn worried about getting sued!

Yeah, the sub is powered off the receiver. I was thinking the same thing about the high to low level converter but could i use it in conjunction with the normal system sub? The normal sub is plenty for me but now i'm just being a jerk to this idiot. Last night he clearly was playing it on purpose. The gunshots sounded like they were right outside our patio door. The cat runs and hides under the couch, the dog barks like hell, and my wife and i just fume more and more every weekend!! He clearly does have the advantage by being on top and this place was built in the 80's and that bass just soaks right through the ceilings and walls. We're looking for a townhouse to buy right now so hopefully won't be here too much longer but till we leave it's time for payback.

funny someone should mention gas leak. There meter is right outside our patio door. I'd love to turn the gas off tonight when it's 13 degrees outside but that's a bit extreme!! what i'd really like to do is find his cable line which is somewhere in the roof of our utility closet, cut it, and send a nice little charge into the back of his tv! but i'd say they would know who did it when they found the cut cable spliced back together. Not sure a 12v drill battery would do much harm anyways. that's a bit extreme too.

so you don't think 2 of the stock subs hooked up would sound any good? any damage to the receiver if I try it? series or parrallel wired?

I don't know what the sub output capabilities are on that receiver, but I doubt it has enough headroom to push two subs at the same time regardless of how they're wired. If you have an extra car battery and car amp, you can get a pair of Aura Bass Shakers and attach them to the cieling and really drive them nuts, and you can always put them in your couch or your car when your done. LOL
