is this a good deal on this sub and is this sub still a good sub in todays world he wants 1000.00 for it

This is a used Velodyne HGS15x THX Ultra2 subwoofer. The amp is brand new and is a December 07 production date and is the latest Ultra 2 THX version. This is the same amp that is used in the DD series.

I'd say that's about right, but for a couple hundred less you can get an AV123 MFW-15.

I picked up my HGS 18 for $1500 used. This was back before internet direct really caught on. I don't know if these other subs are as good or not. Don't really care as I'm not going to fork out more money to find out.

The other thing thats nice about these subs are they are sealed boxes with no ports, thus making room placement very very easy. It's nice not to have to worry about where you have to put it and you never get boomy bass with any kind of placement.

Sorry, but this is just to far out there to ignore.

Perhaps in your room, you can't get boomy bass and placement is very easy, but my experience is that any sub can be placed in corners to get boomy bass and that it has nothing to do with it being ported or sealed. As with any subwoofer, placement affects frequency response and to get the flatest response, you have to experiment with placement.

Back to the OP's question, $1,000 for an HGS-15 is what they're going for. I was running dual HGS-15s for a short time and wound up selling off one of them.

The one word of caution that I can not stress enough is to either go pick it up or have it strapped to a pallet for shipping and shipped motor freight. The magnets on these drivers are glued on and can not take the bouncing around normal to UPS or other package shippers.

From the Audioholics review: "The next step was to check placement with my low frequency sweep test. I began placing the subwoofer at various locations around the room. I noticed right away that the Velodyne HGS-15X didn't particularly care where it was placed: corner loading, 1/3 in from the sidewall, 1/2 in from the sidewall, and various other locations. It yielded excellent results; it never sounded boomy, dry, flat, or localized - regardless of where it was placed. This is an easy subwoofer to integrate into just about any installation regardless of placement requirements. Let me point out this is not the normal occurrence when dealing with most subwoofer integrations into high-end systems. Most of the time subwoofers require exact placement for proper integration. The Velodyne HGS-15X was the exception; I placed the subwoofer 1/3 in from the sidewall on the front wall for the rest of the evaluation. Using tests discs like those from Rives or other companies are useful when trying to determine subwoofer placement and integration in your room."

On top of which I own the 18" version and have had the same experience. Sorry, but I don't think I'm that "out there" as you suggest.

That is just one room. Corner loading in 1 room can be different in others. It is also dependent on where you sit.

I'm sorry, but your statement is just a false generalization.
