I'm new here..been lurking and reading for a month or 2. I currently have the following speaker setup:
fronts: Klipsch Heresy's (originals circa 1984)
center: Paradigm CC370 V2
Sub: D-Box David 302
Rears: Polk Monitor 4's (circa 1985)
all running thru an Onkyo 805 (circa 2008).
I want to improve this speaker system but would like to keep the center & sub.
Which Paradigms would match, front and rears? And, if I go 7.1., which center rears would work ?
Thanks

If you want to match the center well, you will need fronts to be from the same lineup (V2). They will share midrange and tweeter drivers, which is where most of timber matching occurs.

For 7.1 configurations, they like bi/dipoles for the side surrounds, and monopole speakers for the rear left. But, this is just general theory, so I would experiment and see what surrounds speakers you prefer.

Aw why you getting rid of the Heresy's? Or are you planning on moving them for a 2ch setup? I love the klipsch Heresy, Cornwall, LaScalla, and Klipschorn from the 80's and older.

Do you think there would be a difference in timbre between the V2 and the V4?

I was looking at the Mon 5's or 7's. Do they still make Version 2's ?? Or am I limited to the used market??

Once I have the replacement speakers, I will get rid of teh Heresey's. I bought them in Germany in 1984. They are all original, and to be honest, sound the same as day 1 when I brought those babies home.

If they changed the midrange and tweeter or enclosure and any big way, yes.

You will get a good chunk of change when you sell them. :D

Really ? I've seen them for 3 - $400. Is that what you meant ?? If not, what is the usual going rate for these..
It depends on how flooded the market is really. I've seen some at that price range and others at around $1000 depending on condition. It they are pristine you can easily get close to $1000. Considering LaScala's go for almost $2000 and Klipschorn's go for around $3000 in mint condition.

Does anyone know where I can buy Version 2 of Paradigm Mon 5 or 7? Are they still manufactured?

Those are going to be hard to find as they are on v5. And the monitor series doesn't seem to resell for that much.

While in Germany during the 80's Klipsch was VERY popular with us ARMY guys. But I had to be different, and bought two JBL L-100 T Studio Monitors for $660.00. Street price was over $1300.00!

Yes, Klipsch, Cerwin Vega, Bose (!), Polk and a few others had sales teams driving around Europe to all the US & Cdn bases. They had audio shows at a lot of the bases each year..thats where I bought my Heresy's. I almost sprung for the La Scala's but my German apartment wouldn't fit them too well.

Ok, I'm to go at this from a different angle:

If I kept the Heresy's, what would be a good choice for a center, and surrounds ? And, I know I'm pushing it, lol, the rear centers for a 7.1 HT system ?
Is there anything on the market to match, or reasonably match, the Heresy's ??

Thanks

I bet those JBL were great. Don't know too much about the vintage JBL stuff. Did you get rid of them?
