Why would any store need to carry speakers other than B&W, PSB and Paradigm?:D
Those are some great speakers.

If they will allow you a 30 day No-Cost Return Policy, I say start bringing those babies home for an audition & and let us all know how they sound in your first ever extensive Audioholic Speaker Review!:D

EDIT: I just can't believe they don't have my Def Techs! So Poo Poo on them!!!

That is a good point.
90% Games + TV + Movies = Athenas Will Do.:)

But like all things in life, you gotta plan for the future, not just this year. You just don't know where life takes you.

How many of us have gone from one extreme to the other, from Music to Movies and vice versa?

I went from Movies to Music, back to Movies, back to Music, then now to Movies + Music.

So just get a great set of "Musical" speakers, which will also work great for movies + games.
To me games can be lumped into the movies category and music is the other category. I've built my system around music first as its more critical than movies. My intended use has always been 50/50.

I just want to get the OP to think about his upgrade plan, whether or not his requirements are going to change. If he's sure that the primamry emphasis will be HT, then a big screen in room of that size will be a much better upgrade path than new speakers. The Athenas do HT well but a 27" TV is rather small in a room that size.

That is a good point. I missed that part about the 27" TV. That 100" Projector/Big Screen sure looks mightly tempting. Yes sir.:D

However, this Thread is about $3,000 Speaker System? Hello?
We can't talk about Projectors and Big Screens! That would be off topics. Why we just don't do that sort of thing around here!

Let's focus here. $3K Brand New Shiny Speaker System.:D

You live in Canada and you aren't considering PSP or Energy??? I auditioned some B & W towers about a year ago, can't remember what kind. Then I auditioned the Energy RC's. Regardless of price, I liked the Energy speakers better. Everyone is different, so listen yourself. I think the RC-70's would do you fine, but if not, sample the Veritas line. The 2.4's have some low, low extension. Even better than Bose
Me myself, just sold my entire Polk system. They were good, but not great. I will be buying the RC-70 system in about 2 weeks.

OH, and by the way, I have it from a good source that the B&W Drivers come off the same production line as Jamo. hehe. Can't wait to here the responses about that.

I think his receiver is a little lite for the 70s. I was going to recommend the Energy RC-30/LCR/10 or PSB T45/C60/B25 combos since he has the SVS sub.

PSB, always a wise advise...As a T45/C40/B25 owner, B25's might be overkill for surrounds, when B15's will do just fine. If using C60, might as well go with T55. Actually, can go with T65, and still be under $3K.

Wow..... this thread was dead for a while. Didn't get any notifications of new posts.... sorry for the no reply.

Here are a few answers/statements.

I don't want to close of the room.

The big screen is in the works. Either Sony 52XBR4, or Pioneer plasma Kuro 5010 or 6010..... leaning twards the Kuro.

I haven't really thought about Energy. I always thought they were over rated but haven't heard them for myself. PSB is also a possibility.

Bose is out.:p

Interested in the Axiom Epic 80 system (without sub) but not sure what they are comparable to..... not to mention I would like to test drive before buying (but with enough positive opinions would give them a shot). How would they compare to the Paradigm system that was recommended?

I've heard both. I would choose the Axiom. Just my opinion.

It will take Paradigm's Studio series which is in a higher price bracket to beat PSB's Image series. Paradigm's monitor series never impressed me at all but their studio series is something to listen to if budget allows. If budget doesn't allow, them go for PSB's Image series,T45 to T65. All great speakers. I own the T45s and love them.

Be careful with 3dB suggestion he is a PSB fanboy and his comments might be biased by that fact.

IMO, which is totally unbiased, the Paradigm Monitor are somewhere between PSB Alpha and PSB Image, and the Paradigm Studio somewhere above PSB Image, but also expensive compared to the PSB Image. If your budget allows, and I think $3K does, a Paradigm Studio set will do, but if not a pair of PSB Image T45, C40 center, and B15 rears are a great buy. I own T45/C40/B25 and enjoy their SQ very much.
