thanks glenn, im still trying to decide whether to treat this room (and ruin its aesthetics) or build a separate HT myself (looking for space near my room)

but what can you say about:

The thicker panels will give you a more bass control, but work best in the corners. It is really up to you if you want to use the thicker panels for the first reflections, but keep in mind that it will not be enough bass control for your room. You really want to straddle corners for that or use the Tri Trap for corners. There are some people who want all they can get so they do use the 244 for the first reflections also, but in my room I use the Tri Trap for the corners, the monster for the back wall and the 242 for the first reflections.

I just downloaded some thiumbnail making program. Took about a minute to install and fix the pics.

Hi Jack. I see that your center channel speaker is mounted from the ceiling. What mount did you use? I am considering doing something like that and my speaker is rather large and heavy (Klipsch KLF C-7 @ 38 lbs). Thanks in advance for your reply.

For the bass traps, you could do some redecorating in the front of your room. Get some DVD and CD books and get rid of those cases. That would allow you to nix the shelving on the side, clean up the front and make room for bass traps on the side.

Sort of off topic, but did you sell the M&K S-150s in your signature? I see the SS-150s on the sides, but the fronts look like LCR-750s or 850s .. or maybe those Xenon series they did? Great speakers either way! M&K is great!

Sorry It took a month to respond, I was looking for some pics of my old setup and pulled up this thread.

I bought the panels from GIK Acoustics, they are 242 and 244's. I forget what I paid but all total, 7 panels w/ sh was around $400-450. Their website should have the current prices.

I did change the front area. The racks with movies are now behind the couch, which hasn't moved. My subs (2) are in the corners with the S150's on stands next to them. All that sandwiches my 52" tv that I added. Still no room for traps.

Those pictures are from 2006, the speakers in them are M&K LCR850's in front SS150's for side surround, and lcr650's for rear surround. I upgraded them since to the stuff in my signature. The old speakers are boxed up until I move to a bigger place and need to set up a second room, or sell them.

I like to use the ooks, which can be found at any hardware store. You can view them at www.ooks.com and look at the pro picture hangers on there website. If can find them around you then any kind of molly bolt will work.

244 - 25 pounds
242 - 15 pounds

mike c, I've been using your basic cheap picture hangers for mine. I used the 50# rated ones that go into the drywall with a nail. You get ~3-6 of them for $2 at the hardware store. All four side panels have been hanging on those hooks, just in the drywall no studs, for a year and a half now. Still plenty strong.

Sometimes bare cement board can chip when nailed into (I've only done it with large nails). You might have to drill a pilot hole, around 1/16" or 1/32" (use the hook as a template to get the correct angle). That's if its just the cement board, if it's drywall over cement board, make a test hole to see if the nail will go all the way through.

Last time I had to drill into cement board, it only took a few minutes. Hell, it took longer to setup the drill and put it away afterward than to drill the holes. Just make sure you measure accurately where you need to drill first.

id actually be happier if the walls were all concrete because I have hooks that hammer straight into concrete. the cement boards are brittle, you can't hammer in nails and it won't hold screws unless you hit the wood thingies behind it.
