IMO the SVS system is better if not only because of the subwoofer. :D

Last night, I did a price comparison and it looks like the following...

3) Aperion's system consisted of 4 Intimus 532-LR bookshelves, 1 Intimus 533-VAC center, and the Intimus S-10 (10") subwoofer. Their total is $1,499.
If you go with the Aperions, I would reccomend the 12" sub over the 10". I think I also remember reading this in some of the reviews on these speakers.

Not to make your decisions any harder but you may also want to consider the Outlaw 990. It doesn't have HDMI, but is a good pre/pro for the money. However, you would need an a separate amp but Outlaw does have some good combo pricing going on now and I believe there is a used 990 for sale in the classifieds section of this forum now.

IMO for the speakers he is considering. Purchasing the Outlaw 990, and amps would be a waste of money.

Hmm.... Not sure I understand...Why is this? Is it due to the total budget and the % allocated to the speakers?

Receiver wattage...

So, I've been looking at a lot of receivers and I would like to ask you guys about the recommended wattage, if I were to go with the SVS SBS-01 system, or the Axiom bookshelves, or the Aperion bookshelves...

For the receivers that I'm researching, I'm seeing the following wattage:
525, 595, 630, 665, 700, 735, 770, 910, and 980

Just a reminder...this is going to be for a family room...

All three of these systems are 8 ohm speakers. Any solid mid-level receiver from Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha or Pioneer should perform well. They range from 85db to 88db sensitivity, so you will have to drive them a little harder than some other speakers to get high volume, but it shouldn't be much of an issue with a good receiver.

Something like the Onkyo 705, the Denon 2308 or something in that range should be fine.

I've heard the Axiom subs and they seem very good. No hesitance suggesting them, other than price maybe. I own an SVS and have no reservations about them either.

From a high-level view, should wattage be something that I should be considering?
