How long will it take you to save another $400 bucks if you want 5.1?

SVS SBS-01

Or if not. I recommend getting

SVS SBS-01 Pair - Black $225
SVS SCS-01 Center - Black $185
http://www.svsound.com/products-spks-sbs01.cfm

plus this sub

Dayton SUB-120 12" 150 Watt Powered Subwoofer $148

Total is $558 plus shipping. :D
hi mazer, so if i went 2.1 instead of the 3.1, what should i spend the $185 from the center on - upgrading the sub or the fronts?

Check out My System pics - I have the SVS system Mazer recommended, and I love it. GREAT system for the price. I do have 5.1 though complimented with some JBL surrounds. 3.1 would work for you, but trust me - eventually you will want to move forward with a full 5.1 system. Once you hear a good surround sound system in your home you will likely wonder how you ever did without it. :D
halon, which svs sub do you have?

how is the svs sub for $430 you have listed? is it much better than others in the price range of $400ish?
From reading all the posts over the last 6 months, my impression is that for buck, you just can't beat SVS subs. Now that's comparing the same price subs. Now if you want an great sub for slightly more money, then you would have to shell out $550 and get the Epik Valor subwoofer:

Personally, I would pay the extra $120 and get the Epik subwoofer.

How do you know it's a "great" subwoofer? Have you heard it? Do you own it?

so acculine a1s are better than the ascends?
Nothing says they are better. Just that some people preferred them over the Ascends. I'm sure there are people that prefer the Ascends over the Acculine's. It's a personal choice.

Okay, I should have said, "For $550, I think the Epik Valor would be a great subwoofer."

I'm just basing/extrapolating my opinion on Tom Nousaine's review of the Epik Conquest, which was phenomenal.

so i think i would like to go the svs route. i was debating doing a 2.1 with all svs or the system you have above. what kind of difference should i expect from a dayton sub like you've mentioned above vs. the svs sub? remember, i'm by no means an audiophile and i am used to just tv audio... thanks so much!

It is just about impossible to beat the SVS system for an application such as yours. It will blow you away.

The SVS will have more headroom, and be more accurate then the Dayton. Either Ascend or the SVS speakers with the SVS sub will make a excellent little system. :D

You should get a package deal when you call them that will be even cheaper.

I dont know what kind of deal, but you get something for getting it all at once. The guys at SVS are great to talk to so just tell them what you are doing and see what they say.
