I listened to a pair of definitive technology speakers (BP7002) than a pair of vienna speakers the set below the acoustics. The vienna blew the definitive out of the water for clarity what are your thoughts on vienna speakers. I never even heard of them before tonight.

Vienna are a well known brand. They just don't get much talk because they are known more for 2ch than home theater.

I really liked the Viennas I auditioned. (And I didn't like much about the DefTechs I heard.) The Viennas were dynamic, rich, full-ranging, and sported lovely cabinetry. Their models are in tough pricing categories, though...and in tough competition with other good speakers e.g. Sonus Faber, Monitor Audio Gold Series, Paradigm Sigs, etc.

Assuming I had the dough (huge assumption ), and if I couldn't have my top three (Aerial, Salk, or Sonus Faber), these would be the guys for me. I enjoyed all the VA models I heard and thought they were among the elite in their various price ranges.

A lot of spec-ophiles will complain about their FR, but if they heard them...no such complaints would be forthcoming IMHO.

EDIT...loudspeakers are such a very subjective and personal experience. You should really trust your ears, first and foremost.

Good luck in your hunt.

I own both the 7002's as well as the 7000SC's and love them. My father has VA Beethoven's driven by a Denon 3805. All things being equal I have to honestly tell you that IMO they are a push with the 7002's -- the VA's image better but the 7002's have a smoother (and lower) FR. But things are not equal, the Beethoven's are price equivalent to the 7000SC's and they (the 7000SC's that is) absolutely crush them in every way.

I listened to the same brands too (at BB). One has startling clarity and transparency while the other booms really well. The Vienna Acoustics I listened to were Grand Mozart. They should be mated with a nice sub though. I am sure about the model of the Def Tech speakers, but they were the biggest towers BB has.

Also keep in mind that the Def Techs are Bipolars, and they require careful placement and a lot of space: 3 feet from the front walls and 5 feet from the side walls would be ideal IMO. I have never seen a store or show room that has the Def Techs ideally placed IMO. Most stores have the Def Techs 6 inches from the front walls and 1 ft from the side walls or 6 inches from the adjacent speakers. If you don't have the space & placement necessary, I would stay away from Def Tech Bipolars.

I guess that's why Def Tech came out with the new Mythos Towers, which are direct-radiating and do not require all that space and placement.
