Is your Bonus check going into your system?

Hello all, new immature member here............

With President Bush and Congress handing out Bonus checks to everyone in the next few months are any of you going to use it to improve your system?
I am probably going to purchase materials for more DIY room treatments, paint and supplies to update my HT room, $600 doesnt go far but it sure will help with small tweaks that may yeild BIG results. I am in the process of hooking up my Behringer room EQ and figure out some detailed measurements as soon as I read the impossible to understand manual again.
Most of my gear I am happy enough with to not feel any need to change the core system equipment but the room can always be improved. The next area would be power related, I have dedicated lines and Hubbell outlets, and Blue Circle Noise filters but I know my Monster 3500 and its companion strip (cant recall model but it is the Monster strip in the line up just before the conditioners are rack mount) could be improved but that will have to wait till more funds become available.

So in short with this small but nontheless welcome bonus check will you spend it on your system?........being that its free I am going to have some fun with it Cheers

If the stimulus plan goes through as it has been described in the news, I won't be eligible for a check.

Mine will be nearly all taken back by the IRS for the tax I owe this year.

The rest will go to diapers and formula and such. :)

I don't know whether or not I will get a bonus check, but I will be getting a total of $800 in tax returns. I may put it towards a bigger TV. My current audio system is good enough that I would need to save up at least $3000 to get an audible upgrade.

I'm, unfortunately, eligible for the check and I will probably use it to improve my A/V system ....

I doubt I'll get any of MY MONEY TO BEGIN WITH back.

"Bonus check"... sheesh. You people need to look at what the government it taking out of your paychecks to begin with. Then realize how much your employer pays on top of that. :)

When the government decides to give you back some of your hard earned dollars you shouldn't be grateful, you should figure out how to let them never have that money to begin with next year.

I would love to put mine into more AV equipment. Looks like I get to do something even more exciting with it this year though.

Pay bills.

I bet a lot of people out there would be happy to be in your position. I pay out the wazoo too. Just incorporated from an LLC to S-Corp to avoid the self employment tax.

Calling it a bonus check is a pretty bad misnomer in my opinion....

More importantly, it's been statistically shown that stimulus packages that rely on tax rebates do not work. People either A) Don't spend the entirety of the check, or B) Spend the entirety of the rebate and then cut their regular spending by the amount of the rebate. In effect the economy gets less than 50% of the boost that it actually needs. The one issue that most conservative and liberal economists agree on is that rebate checks don't work- both the NY Times and the WSJ wrote editorials on this.

One proven way to actually stimulate an economy (see 2003 stimulus package) is to permanently increase after-tax wealth- either through tax cuts (ordinary, cap gains, and business) or through a reduction in benefits costs (health care for example).

I'm going to spend my entire $600 (I'm just happy I qualify for 2007 because I just graduated b-school- normally I'd get nothing), but to echo the points of others, I wish that I wouldn't have had to pay it in the first place. Isn't it more effective to provide incentives to me to consistently spend more money rather than using the one-shot deal approach?

For the amount of taxes I owe Uncle Sam this year, the rebate check will likely only allow me to break even. :( If that isn't just a slap in the face.

Oh well... what can you do. I've got the rest of the year to buy A/V stuff. :D

For the guys who dont get a check....be glad as that means you are doing well, as for my choice to call it a Bonus check, write your own thread and call it whatever you wish, some actually participated in the spirit of the thread, what a novel idea.
For the record I am disabled and dont pay taxes so I get $300 and my better half gets $600 so it IS a bonus check for me.

Fair Tax??

BTW: I have a pretty good idea of what the govt takes from me. The matching contribution by the employer is also a sham. I wish that was also included on the pay stub because that's money that otherwise could be given to me by the employer.

I already used it to buy a Yamaha RX-V659, Dayton 120, Media Gate MG35, and some interconnects.
