What do you guys think about the Audyssey auto EQ program, better than others?

I have heard little about this Audyssey auto EQ. But from what I have heard some people say it is the best out there in terms of auto EQs. I have a acoustically challenged room, so I have been shopping around for a receiver which has this program. What do you guys think about the Audyssey program....does it beat the competition like the pioneers MCACC?

Since it is being bundled into many of the new AVR's and SSP's, it is kind of a no-brainer (literally, could not be easier to use).

I have used it in my heavily treated, dedicated room with several devices and found that along with nailing the speaker distance and level settings, it's EQ function does quite a bit to improve SQ. I imagine that in un-treated rooms, the results would be even more impressive. When shopping for a Receiver or Pre/Pro, I would definitely give more consideration to devices that include this software.

I personally can't wait to try it. Some people have had varying satisfaction levels, but the whole "time-domain" (overhang) correction thing is so ... amazing? In fact, if it works anywhere close to how I think/hope it might, it just makes some of those receivers out there look like amazing bargains.

I'd like to add that if and when I get Audyssey later this year, I am hoping to implement it after I have my friend help me measure my room, and put up some DIY acoustical treatments and bass traps. It should be a totally new experience.

After using it with my Denon 2807, I would say it worked very well except that it really rolled off the low end to the point that it was very difficult to hear. Other than that though, I think it did a very good job of adjusting eq levels on the mids and highs as well as getting distances correct and such. It's also not difficult at all to adjust the settings it calibrates during setup to tweak it to your likings. Personally, I like my bass a little louder than it had it set, so, no problem, just boost it 3-6db. I would recommend it if it is in the class of receiver you are looking at.

Onkyo and Marantz also use Audyssey.

i personally dont like nor trust onkyo and Marantz last time i saw hasn't upgraded too hdmi 1.3a

um i just read about the marantz receivers they look pretty good maybe when the sr7002 comes out ill take a good look but right now i can get a denon avr-3808ci for 1100 so it still wins

I think both the Marantz SR7002 and SR8002 are 1.3a.

Marantz has a new receiver that Audioholics just mentioned for $599 I think, that has HDMI 1.3a...it's worth a look, it seemed like a pretty good unit.

I think the speaker level & type auto setup is great, but the Room EQ needs to go.
