Another member gave me his contact info via PM, but thanks to Buckeye anyway. Got in touch with him, still the same deal if you mention the forum post. Hmmm, how is this going so far?

- New HD-DVD player for birthday, 51" HDTV didn't seem big enough for such detail
- New 65" DLP for Xmas, realized current sub wasn't worthy of HD-DVD for good HT sound
- New VF-3 MkII sub from Hsu Research, revealed current Sony receiver is totally inadequate for driving other speakers to keep up
- New Onkyo SR805 now on order, pretty sure this will get hooked up and make me start looking at the quality of my current fronts and rears

Hello, my name is Mike, and I'm an Audioholic:eek:....
I didn't even wait for the new receiver to arrive. Got a good deal on a pair of Monitor Audio Silver Series RS1 bookshelf on the local Houston Craigslist, $250 and only 12 hours on them. Was later perusing the out of town Austin Craigslist and saw a set of Monitor Audio Silver Series 5i towers and 10i center for $400. The bride and I made a roadtrip up to Austin today and picked up those bad boys:D.

Now where's that receiver:confused:?

I called this morning and Scott matched CC's sale price (699.99) from a few weeks ago. He wouldn't take another 10% off, but this is still a damn good deal.

Thanks!

$699 @ Frys

I saw it in the ad for Frys on Friday's (2/8) for $699. I had to go and look after after reading all the reviews. It is unbelievably heavy. The weight doesn't even compare to the 705. Frys didn't have it hooked up correctly so I couldn't demo it with my own cd (they gave me some lame excuse). They lost a sale to me because of that! I got home and checked Amazon and they have it for $699, which would be better for me with free shipping and no tax. Now I have to pull the trigger on this - I am not too concerned about the video performance because my dvd player will pass an HD signal and upconvert and my cable box is HD (any comments on that? Am I incorrect?)

If you have CC near you, buy it from them and take the Fry's ad back to them later in the day to get the difference plus 10%. Part of CC's 110% price protection guarantee. Plus they only charge $30 for a 3 year warranty.

The TX-SR805 can pass HD resolutions, that is correct.

I buy locally whenever I can to support the local economy. The new Onkyo receivers have reliability issues. Buying locally means no shipping cost and hassle and wait time if the receiver has to be returned or exchanged.

Thanks

Thanks to all for all the information and reviews on the 805. I went to CC last week and bought the heavy unit. They were great - they beat the price difference by 10%. With that savings I bought the 3 yr warrant for $30. I normally don't buy those but for $20 more than Fry's it was worth the peace of mind for $10 per year (after the 1st year warranty). I have been using it for the last week and I am very happy with it. I love the easy ability to change any the output level on any channel from the remote (sub, center, etc).
