Subwoofer and surge protector

I recently got the def tech reference supercube delivered to me which has a 1800 watt amp in it. I am plugging it in seperatley from my other equipment on another circuit breaker. Im curious as to opinions on what type of surge protector/power cleaner I should get as this sub would be the only thing I will be plugging into it. Am I looking for any specific minimum specs as this thing is a beast with an 1800 wat amp in it. Thanks!

Well, although you will rarely be drawing that kind of amperage, I would get protection not much less than that so there is always available power. The best is whole house or circuit protection, but some plug ins are reasonable. Understand that models like the Monster HTS5100 (also a filter...not just a surge protector...and I'm not necessarily endorsing that product for your purpose...just referencing it) limit amperage to 15a x 75% = 11.75 (roughly). That should be fine for most of your usage...but it limits the available power to 70-75% of your potential draw. Also understand that an 1800 watt amp really needs to be on it's own 20A dedicated circuit. You'll also have the additional benefit of avoiding ground loops if you can install (or use a pre-existing) dedicated 20A circuit. I'll let the other guys recommend some specific models for you. Is a whole power cleaner neccesary for just one sub though? I wish there was a single or double outlet strip that cleaned the power.

Since the sub is the only thing plugged into that outlet, all you need is a one or two outlet surge suppressor like the Tripp Lites posted (except that the Tripp Lites are bulky and not so aesthetically pleasing).

Power cleaner? Only if you are near an industrial zone, perhaps. Otherwise, just a surge suppressor will do, as was suggested.
