Trust me, wait for the S10.3 to go on sale or try to get a better deal. The 8.3 is nice, but the 10.3 is worth it. i have seen the S10 go on sale for around $400 and less sometimes.

In that case, you'd be a fool not to get the S10.3. It goes way lower. Trust me, my room is small. I bought the S8.3 and the 10.3. It wasn't even close. I returned the 8.3 back to FS. What are your speakers? The RC center is better quality. If your buddy can give you a deal, I'd get matching R and L and C.

It's just not possible to mix BOSE with Energy up front and get a good soundstage... the speakers sound so different. Before doing anything, get matching speakers for the front. The mini's are better than c-series, but matching is better than anything.

The S8.3 is a good subwoofer for a small room. I wouldn't want it to have to handle any space too large, but it plays well for a bedroom or a small living room. With such small speakers everywhere else, you may end up with a high crossover and lots of sound going to the sub. That may need to be thought out too.

I'm also wondering about this sub. I've heard good things about it and have a really small room to put it in. My main speakers go down to..around 50Hz realistically. Should I go with the S8.3?

Go to FS and listen to it. It's not bad, but it doesn't go that low or terribly loud.

It doesn't go down to 27Hz?

Also, when you say that it doesn't go that loud, what do you mean? Won't it go as loud as I turn the volume on the AVR and sub?

Loud as in loud. When I listened to it, once you got up into the higher Db range, the range where normal conversation was harder to hear, it started to get drown out by the speakers. This was a larger room though. Might be good in a smaller room.

I cannot comment on the Frequency response, I haven't seen any measurements, nor did I test it with tones.

My brother-in-law has 2 of the S10.3 It shakes the house. It's not the lowest or the loudest but it plays very well. Accurate and punchy.

Speaking about the in-law. I don't know how that happened but he blew off his 2 sub's amplifiers. Well I think I have a clue. He's a young clueless guy who only loves loud music. Think he pushed them too hard. Then only the towers (c-500) remained. Then one day his GF entered the room with a back pack, turned around and down went the speaker. Floorstander wasn't standing anymore.... nor playing :S Poor little guy just wasted 1300$

I like my music loud...really loud, sometimes anyways. And my room is pretty small, I couldnt give you exact measurments but its not a living room or anything, but its not a living room. Would this sub still work for me, or would I blow it?
