Could not wait any longer. Got it from Crutcfield scratch and dent. Comes with a 30 day return policy.

The deal sealer:
Two sets of main speakers. I have a 17' by 14' L shaped seating environment and can see running two sets of centers, rears, or surrounds to accommodate this. Test, test, test...

Speakers (4 Acoustech HT-63 surrounds) and receiver should arrive Friday or Monday. I appreciate all the great input I received! This site is awesome and I will be back.

The 1908 is a good receiver. Flawless 1080p video + audio performance. It sounds better than the Yamaha 661 - its direct competitor.

jdrocs,

Congratulations on your purchase.
Thanks man. I know I said earlier I was going to save up for a 750.00 to 850.00 system; but the Playoff games this weekend just sent me over the top. Have to get a system in place before the Super Bowl.

The $500.00 or less system choices came down to:
Yamaha 661, Marantz 4002, Onkyo 605 and the Denon 1908.

Could have saved a little money on the others; but I really wanted the Denon. I like my music better than movies and all the Denons and Marantz seem to review well on that front.

As far as this receiver or any of the others goes, this is a huge upgrade over my little 5:1 Zenith all in one system on all fronts.

Considering this is coming from a Yamaha 6060 owner, I will take this a great compliment for the Denon 1908!

I am putting together a HT system for my dads friend and had him buy the 1908. I dont particularly care for the new look Denon has given the 08 series vs last years models (I hate it actually) but Its a solid reciever and has the zone 2 feature he needs. I think he will be pleased :D

Thanks,
I am looking forward to this; and I am sure your dads friend is as well. The Zenith it is replacing looks like something you would get at ToysRUs compared to the Denon.

This is going to be my 1st decent system since the ex walked away with my Sony rack and DLK's 20 years ago. I am pumped! :D

Thanks,
The Yamaha has like 10 preouts or something. The Denon has one preout and processes HDMI audio. It will also passthru 1080p. No up conversion; but if your DVD/TV will do that; then it should be fine.

I have been considering a lower priced Denon such as this but I am confused. Audioholics among other reviewers have good things to say about Denon receivers but on different forums although there can be some who like Denon it seems like there is a lot who don!t. If they are as good as advertised why is this so?

this is true of all brands ... there are fanboys of every brand that blindly want and recommend the same brand they have.

me, I have HK, Yammy and Denon and would buy the next one purely on the feature set I want and need ... you should too.

Ok, lets clear the air about a couple of things.

First: The Denon AVR-1908 does not have multichannel preouts. It has preouts for zone 2 and naturally the subwoofer.

Second: The Denon will process Multichannel Lossless PCM with HDMI 1.1 repeater (just like the Marantz SR-4002 does. It also supports HDMI 1.3 (deep color) if your source and display both support this feature.

Third: The reason you hear people saying Denon is great for music is because that's what they have led you to believe. Denon and Yamaha are both well designed and crafted receivers and should sound nearly identical if not completely the same. The reason you hear people saying they are crap is because they are Denon haters. Listeners bias is the only thing making these receivers sound different to whomever.

only the CI models don't have pre-outs. the non-CI models have pre-outs.

The US model does not have preouts. The Europe and Asian models do. I understand where you are coming from. The US Denon AVR-1908 only comes in one version (no CI model) and it does not have preouts unfortunately.

Does Crutchfield sell to anyone else but Canada or America? Most users here are Canadian or American, it's likely he got the bum 120 volt US version.:(:D

pre outs on denon 1908

I have the US version of the 1908...and I need pre outs for the front speakers. Is there a way to add them? Or am I SOL?

i'm thinking SOL.

i've heard of speaker level to line level adapters ... but personally, i'd just get new receivers :)

Welcome to the forum!

I won't vote "SOL" with Mike just yet, but that'll probably be the end conclusion. :)

You do have the "Zone 2" pre-amp outputs that are stereo. Those won't output a signal for any digital input sources though.

Can you tell us more about what you are wanting to do?
