$1000 sub.. Velodyne, SVS, Sunfire, DEFTECH, Outlaw?

I need some helps guys.. I have read many reviews, read opinions on these forum boards, but nothing that looks at all of these. I am looking to spend about $1,000 to replace my Infinity CSW-10 (650 watt, good musical sub). I am looking for a Sub that can still provide good musical quality, but give me lots more oomph for home theater applications.

I am running a 7 channel Energy Veritas speaker system off of a Denon 4802 (soon to be upgraded) receiver.

I am heard good comments on Velodyne SPL 1200, SVS, Sunfire, DEF TECH, Outlaw.. I will not build my own, so please don't reccomend that. I want an off the shelf product. I want my target to be at around $1,000 (actual sales prices, not MSRP). I want to stick with 12 inches, any mroe and the box is TOO BIG, any less and I am back where I am now with a 10 inch sub that may be a bit better, but hard to justify the extra bucks spent. (I figure I will get $400 for mine when I sell it on Ebay or somewhere else).

Any help and opinions from personal use is greatly appreciated.

I never know what people mean when they say it shouldnt be too big:rolleyes:
I second that. However if you don't want a sub that has a large enclosure, the SVS may not be for you. Although you could always get a cylinder sub, the 20-39PC+ is awesome.

Me too, but usually SVS subs are considered to be very large considering the size of the driver used in the enclosure.

Other way around... they are large because of the size of the enclosure used for the driver.

Epik castle

..and it's a single 15" not an 18"

Try either Elemental Design or Epik. Both those companies have redefined the value to $$ ratio.

Sheep, you trick me out! Is the glass half full, half empty, or just in the middle :D

Otherwise, here is an un-auditioned set of subs for $999.95

I paid that for a new spl-1500R and it is smaller than all the other 12"ers mentioned. Just have to shop around.

How do you like your spl-1500r? I was personally looking at the 1200r...

I am no expert, but here is my take.

It is fantastic. You don't even know it is there when playing music until you shut it off and the earth falls out from the bottom end. I like that people don't know I have a sub and are blown away by the sound quality. I find myself listening to slow blues tracks over and over because I love how tight the bass sounds. It is a model of restraint, understated and overpowered.

Then you throw in a movie and it transforms into a little street fighting bully. Reproduction is accurate enough that when a building is crashing down, well, you'd guess the same was about to happen. Huge presence that adds depth to movies with a prominent score. I have a concrete slab for a floor, and I swear it has made it shake.

It'll do.

How are you enjoying your Elemental, and Epik subs?
I can only speak to the Elemental Design. Build quality is top notch and it is an earth shaker of a sub. I have a/b'd it to my friends Velodyne DLS-4000R . The edesign is more a a sub in all respects for the same amount of money.

I would love to lay hands on an Epik. ED has pumped out two more interesting subs:

The A7S-450 is a sealed 18" for $775 shipped

And one that looks like it is directly aimed at the Epik Conquest the A7-450

These are truly two great sub companies.

This ones for you Gasman.
What a wasted comment.

Honestly, I would second Matt with the Epik suggestion
(for that price range, they look good on the bang for buck at 1,000 range not the 600.oo range, however, I did not read through the WHOLE thread, and did not look for specifics from the OP).

I have a large room and I have the velo 1200R and I'm please with it. It's not the lowest but it does a nice job. I listen to 70% music so I wasn't after a special effects sub. I got it off ebay NIB cherry finish incl. shipping for like $968, I think. Good Luck
