YPAO problem

Hi guys
new here. Just starting to be interested in the home theater experience.

I just bought a Yamaha RX-V461. After connecting everything and running the YPAO auto setup, it shows that i have only 2 front speakers that is SP 2/0/0 in the setup results. But during the test I can hear sound from all 5.1 speakers.

From the manual I see I'm supposed to get SP 3/2/0.1.

Any help? Please.

YPAO is poop. Use manual setup to set it up yourself. When I got my 661 it was giving me some whacked out settings as well so I ended up doing it manually.

Yeah its just that I have read so much about how great YPAO is and it quite disappointing it wont work well.

Yeah Audessy is a lot better compared to YPAO but don't let that sour your experience with Yamaha receivers. They are great and reliable pieces of equipment. It is very easy to do a manual setup and in the long run you will be happier with your system.

YPAO is not as nice as some of the auto-cals but it's not all that bad. Rerun it and then go back to the manual set-up and change the crossover to 80hz and set all your speakers to small and see what happens.

You'll still need to do a manual setting on any of the EQ parts and on some of the levels since the sensitivity of the sub will be different than the mains/surrounds. Also, it will have a different bass curve to it due to vastly different room locations.

If it was me, I'd do the levels with a meter, let it set the distances for me, and do any of the EQ by hand. You can use Room EQ Wizard (free).

He did what is described above I believe. I have got YAPO working on my receiver and it works well, but it is about two or three years old.

I also did that now.. but still no go. Can't set my fronts to small!? ((EDIT: I can now set it to small also but still no go. Just showing 2 speakers..

It sounds like you may have something set to stereo rather than 5.1 or 7.1. or you have not selected all the speakers. My YAPO senses where all the speakers are hooked up and if they are all in phase before allowing you to proceed. If you have a speaker wire loose, YAPO will give an error message and not store its analysis results until you fix the problem. Since you are not getting error messages, it sounds like a menu selection problem. You may have to experiment with the menus a bit to hit upon the solution.

I'd ran the setup again. There it detects all my speakers. But when I save it still there are only 2 speakers it says.
I adjusted all settings but still nothing?!

You might want to unplug the receiver from the wall outlet for about 5 minutes and then replug it in and retest. Sometimes this works in resetting the microprocessors in an electronic device when they get stuck in a certain mode.
