Bought a 720P Sammy and a HD-A3. I was wondering if I should feed it a 1080i signal or stay with the 720p. I only ask because the actual pixels on this display is 1366x768. So . .... would it make more sense to use the extra pixels or would this just hurt the pq. Honestly I haven't had alot of time to try it out, but from what I have seen there dosen't really seem to be a difference. Thanks guys!

I would start with the tv's native res, which is 720p. Watch a scene of a flick you are pretty familiar with and note all the nuances such as shadow detail (if any), color, contrast, etc. Switch the A3 over to 1080 and watch the same scene again and see which looks better to you. Do this on a couple of movies and leave it on what looks better. The tv may deinterlace better, but I doubt it.

Thanks, thats what I figured. So how do those extra pixels get utilized?

There aren't really any "extra" pixels, the TV will automatically scale any input (i.e 720p, 1080i, 480i/p) to it's native resolution of 1366x768.

Thanks, but . ... if 720p native res is 1280x720 what happens with thoses extra 86x48 pixels? Am I worrying about nothing here?

It isn't that you're not worrying about nothing (yes, work through the cancelling negatives everyone), I just think you need to view the issue differently. The issue you're focused on is the lack of fit between the plasma's display and the source material's output. That's an important issue to be focused on. The better way to phrase that question though is how well does the plasma scale the incoming non-native signal to its native resolution. Plasmas have internal scalers to deal with that issue, but those scalers have vastly varied abilities. I'm buying a prepro that has the Reon HQV chip (which supposedly scales impressively) to deal with the issue, regardless of the plasma's ablities, though knowing full well that the plasma may scale better than the HQV.
