Good/Bad-Bookshelfs-Acoustics

Due to WAF I have bookshelfs vs floor models and also due to WAF they are located in a built in bookcase/entertainment center. I know bad set up. This is what I've done to try and reduce/eliminate any resonance. The opening are 17"x15" and I've lined the bottom, sides and rear walls with acoustical tile (w/o WAF). Is this a good solution or can anyone suggest another possbility? Thx

Try to keep them to the front of the shelf, at least flush with the front of the shelf. If it sounds boomy, you could try to line the back of the shelf with some acoustic insulation covered in a nice cloth. It may just be trial and error to arrive at the best solution for an imperfect situation.

Get sealed or front ported bookshelf speakers so the cabinet it sits in is less of an influence?

Yes, having them flush or even a bit out will be a benefit, though how much depends on the particular speaker.
