(like me, they have every right to say what they think.)
Well, that's not true Schmoe, unless you don't mind being offensive. Living and believing in a free society does not mean one can say whatever they want. And even if it's not illegal or potentially hazardous, it can still be offensive.

I agree that it would be interesting to see which principles they are referring to. My understanding is that most of the ideas in the constitution came from ancient Greece, long before the christian era.
As the first settlers (Mayflower era) were Christian (Protestant), so were most that arrived here from Europe after them. So it is natural, that by extension, these beliefs were formative in their thought processes, including the construction of the Constitution, don't you think?

Happy New Year to you John, and to you all.

Yes. And that is putting it weakly, or, errr, stating it lightly.
The way I see it, Joe's entitled to his view. Neither do I have a problem with him not tiptoeing around stating what he thinks or how he feels. At least then we can fully appreciate what he thinks or how he feels, even if we ourselves find it offensive.

...isn't that fitting ("Robust") coming from Robbie?
Conspiracy? Or fate? :D

Thank you Robbie and the same to you.

I have long accepted his point of view, well, not only his, but his fellows "Atheist" in general who have expressed their views. Being objective without making general assumptions/statements might not be one of their strong points though.

Conspiracy? Or fate? :D
I'd say fate..:D:D...with a hint of conspiracy...

Thanks for the book recommendation. I read the plot summary on Amazon, and it sure looks like a great scifi novel. Just my cup of tea. :)

I like 'deeper' S/F myself. If you get the chance there is a book by Vernor Vinge called "A Fire Upon The Deep". It will take you places.
