Is this a good $1000 HT setup?

Agreed. It sounds like your dad is the type that won't bother auditioning speakers. If that's the case, are there any considerations for the speakers? For example, does he want towers, bookshelves, satellites, etc... I'll throw the av123 speakers in the mix as they're excellent speakers for the money. Or the PSB Image line which is on sale at Saturday Audio for a really great price.
Hey rnatalli

I cant get on the Saturday audio site. Is it possible for the OP to pick up this PSB setup for around $1000?

I thought the original title of this thread was a $1k HT setup. You know: speakers and receiver. What some are suggesting is a 30% increase in the budget.

To the OP: do you have any wiggle room?

BTW, the Marantz sounds like a great bargain option with lot's of features for the money.

Ooops forgot about the receiver. Well, replace the T45s with the B15s and he should be on budget.

I will consider the Marantz if another one shows up, But im really not liking the Maple color on the PSB's. If saturday audio had them in black, I think the b15's all around might be a go.

It's really tough for me, being somewhat of an audio conscious person, because my dad wouldn't know good sound if it slapped him in the face. All he knows is what consumer reports tells him. If it was up to me, I would be spending much more money on a system, and maybe even build the cabs myself. Even if I am not completely satisfied with the BIC's, I think for him, they will be well worth the money, and thats what matters. Seriously, BIC 64 towers, 62 center, 62 surrounds, 10" sub, AND Yamaha/Marantz receiver for right at $1000. I don't see him being disappointed whatsoever.

Thanks guys, I'll see what I can do.

The OP beat me to it in saying that it's possible, but since maple is the only color available, that's probably out.

Tell your dad that Consumer Reports doesn't know "Jack" about audio. Tell him to get his information from a more reliable source, one that specializes in audio and video equiptment. One like....oh, Audioholics for starters. :D
