I'm using an onkyo 805 as a pre-processor and a Parasound Halo A51 to power a definitive technology reference subwoofer. I am ordering cables off blue jeans right now. I'm getting the multi channel surround audio rca cables for the 5 speakers. How am I connecting this sub? My guess is a sub cable from the onkyo receiver straight to the sub... any ideas?

Well, if you're using an amp to drive the sub, you need an RCA cable going from the sub out of the 805 to the amp, then another one going from the amp to your sub.

If you just connect the sub from your receiver, the receiver will be driving the sub.

Well the sub has an 1800 watt amp in it does it need any more power? My parasound amp is only 5 channels. The sub cable I have isn't very long and it has two connection points for the sub. Not sure what the best idea is.

If the sub is powered all you need is a single cable from the receiver's subwoofer pre-out to the sub.
