The Meanest Trick of CES2008

Maybe it was meant as a practical joke, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were some lawsuits arising from this. Nor would it surprise me if these guys were banned from CES in the future.

I have to admit that I find the clip pretty funny. Unfortunately I don't think the timing is appropriate. To all of those people gathered around trying to gather information about the product it made the producers look pretty bad at no fault of their own.

I blame the fall of HD DVD on this...

I don't really see this as funny... Maybe once, but to walk around the show doing it over and over again extends it from a funny practical joke into something that will likely result in them being held to some sort of account.

If I was presenting I'd be furious, if I was in the audience I'd be cracking up. Their timing was a bit off though.:D

What gets me...

is that this isn't really a clever prank. You think a bunch of smart guys like that could come up with a more clever, less disruptive prank. The booths aren't cheap (it doesn't matter how much $$ a exhibitor has).

Now a cool prank was at the 94' NAB convention. AMX and Crestron are competing automation control specialists.

At the show Crestron was handing out vouchers for a sit down brunch. AMX went around, gathered all the vouchers and went out on the Vegas streets and handed them out to all the indigent. So that was funny. It also back fired. Crestron seated everyone of them and treated them like royalty.

I think a great prank (and a little poetic justice) would be if some hacker would shut down the Gizmodo.com site for a while.

I'm sure with their wonderful sense of humor, they would find it very amusing .

So tell the truth.

Did you confiscate the remote control from Tom and send him to his room without any supper? :p

I'm surprised that Gizmodo bragged about this so much. I'm sure someone up there must have known it was a bad idea. I wouldn't be surprised if Gizmodo had more problems in the future and not just at CES. This one stunt could have long term repercussions for them.

Major - I don't need cheap tricks like this, I just sick Dina on people :D
