Hello All. newbie here. was wondering if anyone would help me out on some settings.

I have an onkyo 605 and want to setup speakers. However, in the onkyo 605, i cannot set the speakers to Large or Small. It only displays them in Hz.
I want to set my all my speakers to Small and my sub to Large. How do i do that in Hz. Please help me out as i am completely new to this world.

Much appreciated in advance

You're definitely missing something. The 'Hz' settings would be for the sub xover frequency or maybe for the EQ. You can definitely set speakers to Large or Small but the subwoofer doesn't go by the same concept and can only be set to Yes or No (as in does one exist).

The settings should all be under the speaker config menu.

the onkyo 605 does not have Large or Small options to set the speakers. It doesn't say Large or Small. It goes by in Hz. Can anyone else provide help.
Maybe i can provide a pic for you guys to see, but the 605 does not have Large or Small you can select

Oliver, I've owned Onkyo receivers for the last 10 years. I can GUARANTEE you that the 605 allows you to set speakers to Large and Small.

Once upon a time, the 501 series changed to use the non-sensical nomenclature of Subwoofer mode 1/2/3 but every other model since then has used the industry standard of Large vs Small.

Edit: 'Full Band' equals Large and for Small you set the xover frequency you want. Anything other than Full Band means Small. Set them all to 80 Hz and be done with it.

i would post a pic or a link if i could, but i don't have the 5 post counts yet.
Please go to audioholics.com and in the search, type in onkyo. find the tx-sr 805 and look at the setup and config. page. there is a pic of what i see on my onkyo. then you will know what im talking about

I downloaded the manual for the 605. Onkyo has departed from prior models and no longer has the Large and Small settings; instead they use 'Full Band' to indicate Large (because after all Large means send the speakers the full frequency range) and for Small you set the xover frequency you want in one step instead of setting them to Small and then separately setting the xover frequency. This is because this model allows you to set the xover frequency separately for each channel as opposed to prior models that had the traditional global xover that applied to all channels.

It's fairly simple and the manual explains it all. If you want each channel set to Small (and you should) set the xover frequency for each channel. 80 Hz is universally recommended unless you have bookshelves or satellite speakers that only go down to 120 - 100 Hz.

Thank you very much. So i have these specs on my speakers. So i set all speakers except for the sub to 80Hz? Is that what your telling me? What do i set my LPF/LFE setting to? 80Hz, 100Hz, or 120Hz? Those are the only options i have

Frequency Response

Floorstanding:35HZ/20HZ
Center:70HZ/20HZ
Surround: 90Hz/20kHz

Crossover Frequency

Floorstanding: 2700Hz
Center:500,2800Hz
Surround:2500Hz

And the sub:

Response Bandwidth: 25 - 150 Hz
Crossover Frequency: 50 - 150Hz

Crossover settings

As previously sugeested, start with a crossover of 80 Hz for all speakers on the receiver. Trun the crossover knob on the sub to the maximum (150 Hz) so that it wont interfere with the receiver settings.

Based on the specs, it looks like your main L/R floorstanding speakers are close to full range so you could expeiment with a lower crossover setting (60 Hz, etc.) for those channels after you have everything else setup and working properly.
