Hi Gang-- new here

I was fooling around with the settings yesterday on my remote, and now I cannot get any sound out. I have a Yamaha HTR 5460. I was trying to get some more sound out of my sub-woofer, a little more bass, and now I cannot get any sound at all, great picture but not a whisper. Neither the DVD player or the TV. I have a six speaker setup. The unit is about 3 years old and has work great until I got my hands on the remote. :)

Is there a way of getting back to the factory settings, default settings.??? I tried taking the batteries out of the remote and leaving it set for a bit but that did nothing. I am using s-video cables from the receiver to the TV. At first I was able to get sound coming from playing a DVD movie, and not the TV, then it was just the opposite and now nothing. I tried the test setting and I do get the static sound from all the speakers.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanx and take care.........Gunny

Hi Gang

Hey with 13 look ats you would think some one had an idea no matter how crazy. I am open to any and all ideas. How do you turn the tape monitor off, I understand this can cause no sound. I am not sure it is on even, but like I said any and all ideas.

Thanx.......Gunny

My RX-V659 has a factory reset procedure where you hold down some buttons while powering it on or something. I'm sure yours has the same thing. Did you try that? Do you have the owners manual somewhere?

Just go into the menu and check all the assignments.

You may have engaged the external input in which case no sound would be output unless you have the external inputs connected. I own a Denon, not a Yamaha, so I'm not familiar with how to change the setting on the Yamaha. On the Denon, you can toggle between auto, HDMI, digital, analog, and ext. input. I have a feeling you might have engaged something similar. All you will need to do is change this setting you will have your sound back.

Yes, try that first. Go into the options menu and make certain it is set on "auto"

It might take longer than 2 hrs 20 min for a response, so just stand by, don't be in such a hurry and miss all the roses:D

If your Yamaha has a multi-channel input option, you may have accidentally selected this via the remote. The effect is that all other functions are shut off when this is selected. Make sure that the unit is not in Multi-channel input mode by either turning it off via the remote again or on the fron the unit. See if this works. JMP

Hi gang

Well I thank you for all for your input. I e-mailed Yamaha and they came back with a pretty quick reply, and asked me to call their 800 #. I did and I briefly described what was taking place, and why I think I did. He came back saying I think it sounds like your receiver needs reset. There is no resetting the remote. So he gave me the instructions how to do this right then, and it worked. I don't know if this works for all HTR series, or the 5460 series. But it worked for me.

Now is there a place for me to put the instructions on this forum to post this, so some one else in this situation can go and see this.?? And also if you click on "Instant e-mail notification" why don't this work.?? I have all these replies and never received a notice of them. Not in the filters either.

Thanx and take care.....Gunny

Why not post it on this Beginners section with a subject like Resetting...

Then, hopefully the next person will get a hit when doing a global search for such a problem.
