Right now they lag far enough behind in performance (per the measurements & reviews) that I wouldn't care how pretty they look. I'm into performance first, looks a distant second. That said, I don't think the Epik or ED subs look all that bad. They're a bit too big to hide though!

I don't think they lag far behind considering box size. I'm not the kinda person to worry about WAF but the bigger epik's and Ed's are frankly really really big. As I said SVS could very much play that game and frankly I wish they would even if its only with a build to oder status it would defiantly bring them back to the top of the heap.

Mike I think Epiks owner (chad I think) said that they would offer passive versions for those interested on AVS. He didn't give any dates or what not. I assume it will have to be a custom oder.

It's not what SVS could do, ShaunH- it's what they actually do.;) I'm sure not saying they're incapable of making a bigger, more potent sub, but right now they've been "scooped." You're certainly correct about the size, though- I suspect SVS isn't interested in going that large simply because the market would have to be a lot smaller than the one they cater to. Time will tell; I could be wrong...maybe they've got one in the works the size of a refridgerator!:p

And yes, I read about the possibility of passive subs from the head honcho in his posts as AVS.

let's see, I emailed epik last month about 220v. no reply.
I emailed them again yesterday re: passives. waiting for a reply.

i think chad of epik mentioned he'd rather not sell to int'l customers for reasons of warranty.

Hmmm he must not want to have to replace blown drivers.

I'm not sure why people think SVS "lags" behind... The Ultra flat out kicks butt...The Conquest is louder, but it's a freaking monster. Sounds like someone just plain doesn't like SVS for some reason. Oh yeah this is an Epik thread sorry...:)

I'd sure like to see the reviews that show SVS lagging behind performance wise.

And how much of that performance can you really hear? Or is just that fact that you know you have the biggest baddest sub in town?

SVS and Hsu aren't going anywhere. Both have a loyal customer base that doesn't frequent our forum marketplace. Both Epik and eD are living on us presently. That's a good thing, since it will inspire their competition to react with better products down the road. Looking at how long it took the new Ultra to reach the market and the HO, I wouldn't expect to see anything this year...but, there will be something coming for sure. My preference would be something smaller and lighter with equal to better performance and enhanced sound quality. I'm not sure how they could pull that off however :D.

I have nothing against SVS; they make great stuff. As a company they're very helpful and quick to answer tech questions. At one point I was seriously considering buying their subs. But the reality of the situation is that Epik & ED subs simply have more output, especially at very low frequencies. If that upsets SVS fanboys that's not my problem.;)

There aren't many reviews out there for either "new" sub. Tom Noussaine has published the results of his measurements of the Epik Conquest and they're staggering. Craigsub's measurements confirm TNs- the big Epiks kick some serious ar$e.

As for how much extra power I "need" or can hear, I dunno. SVS has long trumpetted their "lead" in power, no matter how marginal. Considering that I'm getting by on 2 older HSU subs that can't play as loud as the current SVS & HSU leaders, I probably don't "need" any more right now. Of course, my room isn't huge, and with full-time school + full-time work I'm not watching many movies lately. Someday I'd like something better than I have, even though what I have is pretty good.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see SVS or HSU come back with something bigger & badder than their current top-o-the-line, but then again they may not. It costs a lot to build and ship a sub like the Conquest, and the market for a monster like that might not be big enough for a (relatively) big company like SVS to bother with. I hope they try, though.:D
