Hello all,

Well, I am having some concerns on my new receiver (pioneer vxs91txh), I hooked it up and everything and seems to be working great, but I don't think I have it set up right as far as sound set up. I have my player (Playstation 3) hooked up through HDMI to my receiver. My player is set up in linear PCM audio output at the moment and I am playing James Bond: Casino Royal and it has uncompressed PCM 5.1 which I have selected ...how do I know if my receiver and/or speakers are playing in that format? all it says in my receiver is either PCM, PCM Direct, PCM + DD Digital depending what I select ...my question is how do I set it to play the best sound quality? or is that it?

I also have set up my player to bitstream and played superbad in dolby trueHD and it doesn't let me know that it is playing in HD, I mean it has a light that is suppose to light up but just says that it is playing in DD Digital, am I missing something? can anyone help? please? ...thanks!

Well for starters PS3 cannot output TrueHD, DTS-HD/MA via bitstream so it's pointless to have a receiver that can decode it. You have to let the PS3 decode it internally so set your hdmi audio setting to LPCM. As far as knowing if the format is playing just hit select on the PS3 remote while the movie is playing and you will see the soundtrack it is outputting. As long as the PS3 shows TrueHD or Uncompressed PCM and you are getting sound out of your speakers it is working. With PS3 and a receiver that can decode the high def stuff you cannot get the shiny TrueHD or DTS-HD light to light up. You have to get a Panasonic BD-30 player to do that.

ahhh, thank you sooo much ...I thought that might be the case but wasn't sure ...the PS3 does support Dolby True HD tho, will it not support it in bitstream but will support it in linear PCM? ...my PS3 does show the TrueHD on the top right ...just thought the receiver should show it as well, guess it doesn't? so if it doesn't light up then what format am I listening to? if it says TrueHD on my screen from the PS3 menu on the top right while playing a movie and my receiver doesn't light up ...I don't know what format I am listening to? thanks again for your input!!! much appreciated!
