I would like some opinions on the Pioneer Elite Pro 1540HD Plasma TV. I have a chance to get this at a good discount. Will this tv do the 24fps Bluray stuff? Also does the fact that this tv doesn't have the 120hz tech hurt? The salesman said that the Pioneer Elite Plasmas are some of the best and it does well with 1080p stuff and doesnt need the 120hz feature since it is a plasma. Is that right? Thanks

This TV sells itsself(24fps=film 30fps+broadcast) Their 768p sets look better than most 1080p sets, period. And this "blueray" stuff will not be relivant till they start shooting film with hd cameras.

I must say that I disagree. All the new HD formats are very relevant(well maybe not HDDVD anymore) but the point I want to make is that the film most movies are shot on is much higher "resolution" than what our current high def formats are capable of. 1080p = 1920 x 1080 pixels and the accepted resolution of film is about 4000 x 4000.

Reading a recent write up on how Blade Runner was transfered to high def formats the article mentioned how the film's resolution was reduced to transfer it to disc(Blu-Ray and HDDVD).

Anything above 1080p resolution is a waste on any set below 110"-150" or so. We simply will not see an increase in detail.

There will be no need for higher res formats. The current blu-ray/hd-dvd media storage capacity would probably have to increase 10x to fit true 4000 x 4000 resolution on a disc.

Blu-ray is relevant, but not a necessity. A 768p set done properly can easily outperform an ill-conceived 1080p set.
