Being a man passionate for the art of music, but lacking in the budget I've done fairly good for myself. I'm currently in the midst of getting some Paradigm monitor 11 V4.5 speakers. Presently I have a Sony DA3100ES 7.1 channel discrete reciever. I have a laundry list of components to simutaneously connect: PS2, Xbox, DVD, Cable and the like, so this is an awesome unit for what I need except I only have two speakers. I picked up this reciever new in the box for a third of it's original value, considering it's a $1500 unit I could most likely turn a profit to gain a more suitable set. The question is: Could I benefit from selling my present reciever, and turn to another amplifier? The catch... I'm looking for an affordable, reliable 3 (three) channel unit so that I can enjoy home theatre still with the benefit of a centre channel. Preferably intergrated to Simplify the equation. I was hoping to turn to Bryston but they're equipment is out of my price range. Objective... To find something similar to a Rotel RX 1050 but with the third channel. Is this possible?

My opinion is you've already got what it takes to be "passionate for the art of music." You can make stunning music with the two speakers you've selected. Some, and I'm one, would say that if music is your goal, two speakers will be better than the three you propose and home theatre won't suffer much. If it were me, I'd go ahead and sell that receiver and pick up the Rotel you've mentioned or something similar (I would choose the NAD 352). You'll have a kicker stereo system and may have some cash left over for a good CD/DVD player. On the other hand, if you've HT in your near future, keep the receiver.

For now, though, with what you have, you done good!:D

Thanks

Although seemingly cynical I won't take it as such, I truly wish to thank you. Upon consideration of your proposal I most likely overlooked the fact that the monitors will most definatly have better dynamic imaging due to their 180 dispersal axis. So yes I suppose I will turn to the Rotel or even the NAD although I'm not familiar with the product

Honestly if you want tons on of juice on a budget look no further than these:

Behringer A500
Behringer EP1500

The A500 has fans which can be a bit loud but the 1500 doesn't. You can pick up 2 EP1500's for $500 and bridge each one for ~800W per channel for your 2 front speakers. Power the center with your receiver or hell just get another EP1500 and call it a day. You can stack them so they wouldn't be much bigger than a 2ch NAD or Rotel. BTW what is your budget for speakers? You can get some pretty good deals online for a pair of Studio 20's or 40's which would be better than the Monitors.

He doesnt need an amp at all. Any 300-400 buck AVR such as the Yamaha 661 would drive the monitor series with out any trouble.

OP, I would also suggest that you move up to the studio series if at all possible.

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as cynical. I'm strictly into stereo and understand the passion for music. Recently, I've sold all my gear and I'm starting over. While I do watch an occasional movie, 95% of my electronics use is towards music. I'm interested in other responses to your post.
