I am familiar with the Sony DAV-IS10 system. It seriously sucks in my opinion. Sure for $150-$250 it might be ok for a bedroom or something small, but for $800.00 it is an absolute ripoff. There is little to no midrange or actual bass to speak of with the system.

You could get a DCM Cinema 2 speaker package, basic upconverting DVD player, and a decent Onkyo receiver for that much and absolutely blow it away.

typical Sony, IMO. They should leave this market in the hands of dedicated speaker companies and just stick with big screen TV's. :p

I actually got a chance to hear these today at Circuit City and, while I was amazed those tiny little speakers could produce much sound at all, I also noticed that the sub seemed to be producing much of the lower midrange sound/vocals just because the sound was so muddy. The end cap display had the sub right behind the center speaker, so the illusion that the vocals/midrange was coming from the LCR's was pretty good, until I stuck my head behind the display and could hear that MOST of the vocals and midrange were coming out of the sub. It's a pretty neat looking package, and unfortunately, will impress quite a few people, but overall, it does sound pretty crappy for the money.

Now the question is though, what sounds better? Bose or the Sony? Bose at $2000 or Sony at $800?
