BG's Radia tweeters are incredible in imaging & detail. I've never heard anything like them. They aren't a traditional ribbon but more of a hybrid. The actual material that they use wasn't invented until the early 90's I think?
Actually I read an article somewhere online where this guy tested a bunch of ribbons vs a soft dome and if I am not mistaken he liked the BG ribbon best out of all of them. He was trying to test how the distortion that ribbons make can be pleasant to the ears. I will try and find the link.

Edit: Found it. http://www.zaphaudio.com/nondomes/
He said that the BG Neo3 PDR was by far the best tweeter of the ribbon bunch as was very impressed by it's price too. Although the Vifa soft dome outperformed everything.

No problem. You should get them in about two weeks or so. I will need them back after 7 days because I take these around with me to demo the Sonos whole house audio system. I have other speakers I can use in the mean time.

InTheIndustry,

Do the Z-1 fare well with imaging when you are using them for nearfield listening? I am talking around 3-4ft max distance between speaker and listener.

When I set these up for our Sonos demo theyn are often times close together like what you're showing. They perform well. No real issues or anything. A wider spread would be optimal, but that can be said about anything really. I don't think you'll have a problem at all.

If you are looking for a pair of small musical monitors, the Era D4 is also a nice choice to put on your audition list. They are small, but are rated down to 58hz which covers the range of most musical instruments. These are among the most pleasing speakers that I have heard. They also come with furniture quality finishes that I'm sure your wife could appreciate.

I was also thinking of these but the closest ERA dealer to me is in Dallas which is around a 4.5 hour drive one-way. :(

This issue came up in the Era thread at AVS. That's how I found this info. It's nice when the owners take a personal interest in creating happy customers.

The Era Design speakers I have heard, the D4 and D5, are excellent. It is no wonder because I think they have the some of the same lineage as Aerial Acoustics.

I was wondering, it's always the same brands and models always being talked about in the forums for HT but what about just good old 2ch music listening? Ever since I got my new HT I have been finding myself listening more and more to music and checking out new artists. Now that I moved we have set up an office in a spare room and my wife asked me if I could put a little 2ch system in there as she spends a lot working there. Room is small so just looking for some musical monitors. Are there any gems out there that you guys have encountered that offer superb bang for the buck when it comes to music?

These are some speakers I have found but I am trying to make a list of what's out there.

Silverline Audio Minuet
Rega R1
AVI Pro 9 Plus
Epos ELS3
Usher V-601
Onix REF 0.5
Wharfedale 9.2
Atelier Audio First Horn
The Horn Shoppe "The Horn"
Unity Audio Whitewater
I have a friend who runs his "horn shoppe speakers thru a tube amp. I haven't had the chance to hear them yet. Still waiting for the invite :D

What are you going to use to power your speakers? Can thye handle a a 4ohm nominal load? If so, try these out;

The Rockets have the Vifa soft dome. :D Well the Vifa Ring Radiator tweeter actually.
Hey Mazer,
What's the difference between the Vifa soft dome and ring radiator tweeter? My Rockets are on the way so just curious.
