I think the percentage of people making over 100K a year is like 1%. And they don't brag about it.

Final decision

Having trouble deciding between

- Paradigm (L/R Monitor 7, Centre CC-290, ADP-190)
- Definitive Technologies (L/R BP7006, Centre CLR2300, BP1.2x)
- Polk (L/R RTI10, Centre CSIA6, RTIA3)

These will go with a Yamahaa PV-X3800 (most likely) receiver in a 11x20x9 room. Sub will be a Velodyne DSL-5000R.

Any suggestions? I've also heard a little about the PSB speakers but not a lot of details.

Thanks

Thanks for all the help guys. Lets try and keep the form related to audio advice given a certain budget and lets try and stay away from degrading this into a meat fight about how much money we make.

After auditioning various speakers, I've setteled on a package from Paradigm. These speakes are made in Canada less than 10Km from where I live and the quality and service is excellent. We seem to get more bang for our buck buying local speakers rather than imports even though the CAD is above the USD, seems pricing has not caught up.

I went with the following package; Front - Monitor 9, Centre CC-290, Surround-ADP-190. I also went with the Yamaha PV-X3800 but switched the sub to a SVS-PSB12-NSD from the Velodyne DSL-5000 after reading the sub form. Also went with the Hammony 890 remote, Sony BDP-S500 Blue Ray player, Rogers DCT8300 HD Digital Box. Topped this all off with a 52" Sony XB4 and a nice wood stand from www.nsm.ca

Should have the system up and running near the end of January so I'll let you know how it performs.

Thanks for all your help.

Greg, I know you've been on the executive/administrative sides of the healthcare work force, but have you ever consider going back to being a respiratory therapist?

I know a few of them at the hospital and they sure are doing pretty great financially, buying big new houses and corvettes, etc.:)

Yes, Sparky21, I would listen to Greg since he is one of the Paradigm experts around here. I only know about DefTechs. Upgrade to those Studios!:D

All 3 of these manufacturers' loudspeakers sell very well, regardless of the perceived reaction from an advertisment or two. They also have completely different marketing approaches to the masses so you simply can't compare them line by line.

Polk Audio tends to have closeouts more often than the other two, simply due to the volume actually produced and marketed commercially.

I haven't heard a DefTech I've liked until the new Mythos series. It's pretty tight and I'd wouldn't turn down a pair at all. Sandy G has a smoking setup.

It's business man, and everyone does it differently.

That being said, I love the Paradigm Studio series and believe the top end has more clarity than the Polk competitor, the LSi. The LSi is just more laid back in presentation, plain and simple. You can't make a speaker to please everyone, that's why this hobby is so much fun.....you get to listen to all kinds of things.

Buy what you want folks but in the end, don't short yourself....listen to everything.

Mark

And I hear just the opposite. Example I think the LSi9's sound quality is better then the Studio 40's.

I'm sure that's the case as not everyone hears things the same way. I find the LSi to be laid back but with a better mid-range than the Paradigm and every bit as tight.

I prefer the LSi7 out of the entire line.

I think the tweeter, and bass response is very special with the LSi's. I have a set of LSi7's, and have never heard then yet. I'm always playing my LSi9's.

I have 4-LSi9's, 2-LSi7's, and a LSiC. One day I will get this system up and running.

My very last back-up plan is to go back and work as a RT. The money is about half of what I was making and you actually have to work. I have gotten pretty used to making decent money and just setting on my butt or golfing:D I should have a couple of offers next week (fingers crossed) or I may have to go back into the sales side for GE Healthcare which is great money but too much travel. By the grace of God, we are still living comfortably and havent had to touch any savings yet!

Not homorrhaging massive amounts of money into a pointless war helps a lot with that, I am sure.:)
