I am a rookie here..My budget is around $1500 for Speakers & $500 for a Receiver. I have a 1080p HD TV, Would like to install 7.1 surround system. I have all ready setup all the wiring. Can you folks recommend which one to buy.

I was looking at the Onkyo's who do sell 7.1 Home Theater in a box.I don't mind spending couple extra bucks for a better speaker but would like to do this right.

Please advise me which speakers to get..I want to get tower speakers for the front as i dont have place to hang them on the wall.

Thanks

First off dont even consider a speaker from Onkyo (or yamaha, sony). They make good AVRs but not speakers. Second you have to audition all the speakers you can find and see what you like. I would strongly advise you to start out with 5.1 and spend as much money as you can on the main (L&R) speaker. Heck, I would even say to start out with a great LCR and just use some cheap speakers for surrounds for now. We have to know your room size to know what sub would work but ED, SVS and HSU will be your best bets. For speakers to audition look at B&W, Paradigm. KEF, Ascend, AV123, DT, PSB and anything else you can find.

Yes. Ditto to Greg's post. With that amount of funds, I would definitely consider a receiver from Onkyo (possibly the 805), and go listen to some speakers to hear what you like for yourself. Myself? I'm a huge Paradigm fan. There are many good speaker manufacturers out there, but the sound quality is hugely subjective with the better brands/models. After you have narrowed your choices with the receiver and speakers, some here will help steer you in the right direction for purchasing. Happy hunting!

I would recommend a 5.1 system with that budget. You could always add speakers later.

You could also put a whole system together with the Acculine series.

I think the Servo rocks pretty good even in my acoustic nightmare 8000 cubic/ft room. Since none of my buddies are into HT, I was afraid that a true audiophile would come over and laugh at the output of my sub but Andrew seemed somewhat impressed.
Haaa! You should talk sigboy. Don't you just love the servo?! As well as the studios...of course!

That is the only good sub that Paradigm makes. :D But for the money I feel there are better choices. IMO

Is your TV a thin panel on the wall? What is the distance from the floor to your TV? What is the dimensions to your room?

I would get the Onkyo 605 for $400, which gives you $1,600 for speakers.

Quality over Quantity is the correct thinking. An excellent 2.0 or 3.0 speaker system is much better than a mediocre 7.1 system.

I just bought the DefTech BP10Bs for $350 each. The BP10Bs are outstanding speakers. They are smooth, accurate, and great sounding speakers that have very good lower bass, upper bass, midrange, and high frequency response (20Hz-20kHz +/-5dB). In other words, they are one of the best bang-for-your-buck speakers out there.

Think about slowly adding speakers to your system. Good things come to those who wait.

SVS, HSU, and Epik make great bang-for-your-buck KILLER subwoofers.
Take it nice and slow and do it right the first time!

Yep, I probably wouldnt pay 2.5k for it but at 1.5k I thought it was well worth it. I had the SVS PB12-Plus/2 and it in the house at the same time and I went with the Servo.
