Another Subwoofer Question...

Okay, this is a semi-continuation of my first post regarding SVS subs....I have a difficult room--20x20, vaulted cielings, fully carpeted, and 4 non-closable openings--one of which leads to my dining room. HK 635, Pioneer Dv588, Klipsch RF 25, RS 25, RC 25...roughly 70% movies, 30% music.

So here's the twist....I just found out I may have the potential to pick up JBL/Infinity products for WELL BELOW retail. Does either company make a sub worth looking at?? Keep in mind potential cost savings of say 30-50% off of retail...

How far up the food chain are you talking. I can't remember the model numbers but the $1000 Infinitys are pretty good with EQ. I don't know the JBL line above the ones generally discussed here.

JBL Studio Sub
This sub looks nice, 22Hz extension. I would try looking at some of those. Northridge, also from JBL, is pretty crappy IMO.

I would stretch your budget just enough to grab 2 Infinity CSW-10's.

The sub has a room correction program and goes down to 22Hz @ -3dB.

2 of them would get you to 20Hz +/-3dB. Also, Infinity has fairly true frequency responses.

This sub looks nice, 22Hz extension. I would try looking at some of those. Northridge, also from JBL, is pretty crappy IMO.

Its not bad and you can pick it up on u-bid for 279$. Not a bad price but the sub sounds a little muddy. If you can get it for below that price it would be a good buy. If you are looking for something for the time being I would suggest it but not for a long term sub. Mine blew a little while back and I am going to wait to get either a SVS or HSU (i think).

Check out this link if you want JBL. Havent heard them or heard any reviews of them but they might be a great but at %50 retail!

the specs seem week for both at this price ($1800 & 2000 MSRP) but who knows. Has anyone heard of them? could be better musically tuned than for home theater. The second one is THX certified (if that makes a difference.)

Been der did dat with the JBL Studio sub. Don't waste your money. I have JBL Studio speakers which are a cut above current JBL offerings, IMHO. But listening to the JBL Studio S120PII sub was like wallowing in a pig pen....muddy and lumbering.

Though I have not heard them, if I were pressed between the two, I'd go with the favored Infinity.

But if you have the bucks....4 out of 5 dentists (and others, lol) will tell you to audition Hsu or SVS subs as 'bang-for-your-dollar' subwoofers. Axiom subs have gotten rave reviews, as well, but are a bit more spendy.

I just bought the L8400P. Does yours make a loud hum noise when it is on and off? Mine sounds like a transformer/high voltage cable. It doesn't seem right.
