OK first, this isn't a repost from the other area of the forum, I went ahead and took advice on those Infinity Primus P362. Here's what happens, as usual, when I get involved in a project.

I had a blown speaker and I got my wife a nice new CD player for Christmas and all of a sudden it's a new system being built MUAHAHAHAHA but since it's my first stereo in 20 years I figure it's time. My old system was what I could afford when I was 15- Radio Shack stuff, but it sounded great and I'm not tone deaf.

Here's where I am: HK 3485 receiver, HSU VTF-2 MK3 sub, Infinity Primus P362 main speakers but NOW I realize my old Fisher speakers are only rated for 60 watts and that receiver is 120 RMS.

Here are some factors: the room is very large (30X12X9) but has stone floors and 1 wall is pretty much all glass. In addition there is a 14' long by about 4 3/4' foot bar (as in pull up a stool and have a cold one) that runs the length of the middle of the room. The ceiling is slightly angled. From the little I know that seems to make for some pretty awful acoustics. I can't get into hanging drapes and adding area rugs.

I'm thinking a set of "B" speakers might just do more harm than good? What's the right move here? On a similar note a buddy and I just fixed a $200 JBL sub that had a solder joint messed up and I'm thinking of adding it as a second sub but it is probably far below the HSU in terms of performance.

My questions basically are: can a second set of speakers do more harm than good or is more always better (assuming I tweak a bit)? Is adding a set of speakers or a sub that is inferior by several magnitudes like putting ketchup on fillet mignon? Thanks!

Unless you spend some time treating the room acoustically, your filet mignon will sound like chopped steak and all the ketchup in the world won't make it taste better.

As far as your old Fisher speakers go, as long as your careful with that volume control, your speakers will be OK.
