I'm looking for an hi-fi for under 700 dollars

This is what I came up with:

PSB - Image B15 or Energy RC-10 hooked up to a Sony SCD-CE595 and a Denon AVR-1707

Sounds to me like Good Sound at a great price.

I'm hooking it up to an fairly old t.v because I'm primarily using them for audio.

Great deal on the Marantz! Check ONECall.com as well to see if any good specials are available on speakers such as Boston or Klipsch.

However the marantz and Ascend would be tough to beat at that budget.

Mecon, if it were me, i'd go for the Encores. Nice sounding speakers and nice looking too! Your friends will think your lying when you say you paid $399. Just my opinion though. all those speakers should sound great for the price.

I have the older PSB Image 1Bs, the B15 having replaced them. I can tell you that these are an amazing little speaker with life like mids, good treble detail without sounding harsh or grating and some good fasr bass response although they won't go down very low. I used them as my mains for while saving up for my Image T45 towers. They're imaging and soundstage is very impressive as well.

I think the ELS3 is rated at 4 ohms, so you need to factor that in when choosing your amp/receiver.
