Okay. Haven’t had a good stereo in years and so I invested in a setup this Christmas:

  • Sony Bravia KDL-46W3000
  • Pioneer VSX-94THX
  • Vienna Acoustics speakers
  • BDP-S500 Sony BluRay

Here is my dilemma…. I can’t get audio through my speakers from my TV

TV HDMI 1 > Pioneer HDMI 1

Cable source is straight COAX from the wall to the TV.

I’m going crazy over here. Help.

The TV will not have an HDMI output. The Hollywood crowd would nix that right away, because of piracy issues. If you connect your system like this, you will have to make an analog audio connection from your TV to your receiver.

It would be better to connect your cable via a box with an HDMI connection to you receiver rather than the TV.

Try running optical out from your TV to your receiver - then if you want to turn off your TV speakers and just use your receiver you can do so via your audio menu (refer to page 53 of your user guide).

Are you using a Cablecard? If so you may want to upgrade to an HD DVR from your cableco. Then you could run at least optical or even better yet run HDMI from the DVR (if your cableco offers HDMI out on their boxes - and they should) through your receiver and let its Faroujda circuitry process your SD channels.

How do you have your Bly-ray connected/routed?

BTW - very nice setup you have there.

still not able to get audio to the speakers

the receiver does not have a coaxial connection, so i guess there is no other option other than a cable box with hdmi...

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Your receiver does have optical in though right? Your TV is optical out - run a tos-link optical cable from audio out on your TV to an optical in on your receiver.

That should work just fine.

Thanks everyone, I'll try the digital TOS Link from tv to receiver until I get my DirectTV HD-DVR.

I was hoping that I would be able to connect this system thru HDMI, without the need for a cable/sat set top box. :(
