Hello Everyone,

First off, thanks in advance for your guidance and support! Let me
start by saying I am newbie so please bear with me. I would like
to hear your suggestions on how to go about do to the following:

Create an Orb-Audio MOD 4 like speaker setup:

Using the following satellite speakers.

Parts Express had a smoking deal at $20 a pair for Spherex
Satellite Speakers.

Please go to their website and see the speakers for yourself. They
should be on the front page or you can search for "Spherex" on the
web.

They are based on OMNIPOLAR technology licensed from Mirage which have
decent reviews. I picked up enough pairs to put together a 4 speaker
Left/Right/Center and 2 Speaker Rear Left/Right/Center. This basically
duplicates Mod4 Orb Setup w/o Sub. I'm planning on leveraging a PSB
Subsonic III that I already have to create a true 6.1 setup.

I'll need to mod the satellite speakers to include normal connection posts.
I believe this can be done fairly easily (I hope :)). Assuming this, I would
wire the speakers in series. I need to figure out the best way to create a
wall mount for 4 speakers (L/R/C) and ceiling mounts for 2 speakers
(rear surround L/R/C).

Now please understand, I don't believe I will be able to re-create the
sound quality of the Orb setup, but I think I could get pretty close?
What do you think? Am I way out in left field with this idea? I would
certainly appreciate hearing your ideas about how best to go about
building this. In the mean time I want wish you all a Merry Christmas!!!

All the best,

Igo2xs :D

Mirage

First off I don't know if what you want to do will work or not but mirage makes great speakers (same company makes Energy and athena). I have the Omnisat v2 satellites as my mains and I love them. I haven't heard orb speakers but I don't think mirage is a step down.

Unlike Omnisat's which are somewhat mass produced...Orb's are all
hand made in the US. I have had the opportunity to touch/feel Orb
satellites and you can really feel the quality. I've also had the opportunity
to hear Omnisat V2 and the Orbs. I have to say, the Orb's actually
sounded better, but the Omnisat's have the ability to create a larger
soundfield. For my Home Theater application and due to room configuration,
the Mirage's will probably suit me better.

Speakers are set to arrive early next week. In the mean time
I'm trying to come up with the best array pattern for the front and
reach channels. What do you think about a line array for the fronts:

O-O-O-O

The above example is for the center channel. Left and right would be
rotated 90 degress. I would frame the flatscreen with L/R/C channels.
Though I could opt to mount the L/R channels on the wall corners, but
I am not sure if this would help increase sweet spot? FYI, the wall which
the display will be mounted is about 18' W.

I am thinking about using 3 Leaf Clover pattern for the rears, like a
mathematical symbol for "therefore" I'll try my best to do this via text:

..O
O..O

Or, I could opt to do the following for the rear channels (of course rotated)
90 degress for the 6.0 (Left/Right) channels and horizontal for 7.0
(L/R):

O-O-O

Does this make sense? Do you have any advice as to which would be
the best pattern to array these speakers? Thanks again for your insight.
I'm really looking forward to starting this project!

All the best,
