I need idea's on how to respond to my boss for this years xmas bonus.

Every xmas for the last 20 years or so the company i work for has given me an xmas bonus equal to about one month's salary & go up or down based on profit margins from my project/projects for the year, every year we respond by sending the company owner a card with prepaid dinner reservations at a very exclusive steak house in Detroit,we spend $500 on this gift to him which is peanuts but he does use the reservations every year & takes his family to dinner.

This year however my bonus was abnormally large,i thought there was a typo or something & had one of the secrataries check with accounting, there was no typo, this years bonus was equal to about 5 months salary:eek:.

Being that my bonus was so large my family's normal response & gift dont seem fitting or appreaciative enough & we are clueless what to do,what do you buy a man who has a mansion, several homes around the country, a villa in Costa Rica, race horses, countless classic cars & motorcycles ect.

My wife thinks we should call our travel agent & book his family a trip with a planned itenerary to Japan or some place like that,I on the other hand realize that he is very busy & a trip like that would be hard on his schedule.

Gimme some ideas guys.

Congrats! That does sound extraordinarily generous. One thing I'll bet he doesn't have is a vintage McIntosh 2 channel system in mint condition. Just reach into the closet and pull out some of the good stuff. If he were to do even a quick search for the value and quality of such a gift, I'm sure he would be suitably impressed. It's personal, being that it is your specialty and he can enjoy at his leisure any time, all the time.

How about just walking up to him. Looking him in the eye, and giving him a really genuine hand shake, and acknowledgment of how appreciative you are.

I think that would be the best gift of all.

Does he have grandkids? A large professional Gregory Daniel portrait to hang in his home of the grandkids . Have his secretary set you up with a daughter or son.

Your right he dont have any Mac gear,he thinks im nuts with my collection:rolleyes:

I was thinking of buying him a complete Mcintosh car system for his new mustang & having my dealer install it all,i could probabally get it all at dealer cost being that its a gift but im pretty sure he thinks about as much about good audio as most other people do.

I really want to get him & his family something they will surely enjoy, even if it only costs $10 it needs to show how much my family thinks of his kindness.

I did just that last night, all of the superintendents volunteered to build his new pole barn for his kids ATV'S & stuff & we finished up last night, all of us are at a loss on how to thank him,we all agree that the overall cost of our gifts is irrelevant & can be something very simple but its got to be special.

His son works for me & i allready asked him for ideas,as expected he was no help,he is a good kid but still very young, his idea was to buy his father a hooker:rolleyes:

The portrait is one hell of an idea & i will be looking into it.

Do you have any hobbies where you build/craft things? An item made with your own hands would probably be the best gift of all for a wealthy man - as they know you put forth great effort/sincerity in crafting the item for them.

A rare bottle of whisky.
Great idea. I'm sure you have some excellent suggestions for brands and ages.
Better yet, take this idea and the son's idea. A bottle of whiskey and a hooker can make for a memorable gift.:D

Love is something money can't buy! :p

It ain't easy having this money eh?! I'm working 50 hours a week right now to be able to pay my car and the bills. Kind of piss me off but hey, you granted your place on the company and congrats for your wealth. I'm jealous actually lol.

For the gift, I would propose audio stuff as well as it represents you. Even if people aren't audioholics out there I'm sure everybody can enjoy good SQ. Car audio is a good idea seriously. Something he'll be using often (everyday - granted he doesn't have 6-7 cars! :p)

No reason to be pissed or jealous,i am not a rich man,not by a long shot, ive got an 8th grade education, went to prison before i reached 21 years old, watched my mother die in my home:( burried one of my own children:(:(,turned myself into an alcoholic, booze not audio;),fell from a building & broke my back, had to re learn how to walk again & never sued my company, was involved in another work accident where i was burned over 12% of my body with 3rd degree burns & never sued my company, cut half of my middle finger off in another accident & never missed one days work.

Life has not been easy for me my friend.

I started with my company at less than $3 an hour at the very bottom of the ladder, took night classes to learn blue print reading & general drafting at my own expense & put myself through heavy equipment operation school to learn how to operate cranes, back hoe's,dozers ect, at my own expense, started work an hour early & worked through my lunch break for many years at no extra pay for myself, have even went as far as to not pay myself overtime pay(Im allowed overtime) for sat & sun when all the men working under me are getting overtime pay.

I put in 50 to 70 hour work weeks for the last 25 years with this company, with 15 of those years receiving no extra pay for over 40 hours, paid for my wife's education so she could get a teaching degree at my own expense & after working 14 hours came home & took care of my children so my wife could study in peace.

My whole point is that you or anybody else all have the same opportunities in life, its all about the choices you make,i have been fortunate i agree but i have & still do put forth maximum effort in everything i do in life & it's paid off for me.

WOW! That sould do the trick. (Along with the heart felt handshake.)

On a personal note (if I may) Are you ok going into a liquor store with your alcoholism? Many alcoholics think they will be fine and then fall off the wagon if they are put in certain situations. Just asking because I don't want you to slip off that wagon.:)

Take care,
Doug

Im ok with going into liquor stores & bars,i took my crew of men to the bar last week & got them hammered while i drank coffee:D,when i quit drinking it was at the request of my family & i haven't really craved it since, every now & then i'll think i'd really like a drink but the desire goes away fast.We still have liquor in the house even though i dont drink it.

Just knowing how badly i dissapointed my children & wife when i was a booze hound is all the motivation i need not to drink.

Thanks Mike, unless i see a very special peice of vintage Mac gear im pretty sure im done buying audio, after jumping up to the Mc1201's 3 years ago it would be pretty silly to keep upgrading.

I'll probabally spend it when i retire in a few years but for now im content with what i have allready.

I wonder if returning that $50 with a note in order. You need this more than I need it?:D
I would be embarrassed to do such a bonus check. A good one or not at all.
