Cure for I-pod trouble- Help

My video i-pod (20 Gb) stopped communicating with my PC & Yamaha dock connected to RX V 659.
The songs are played when ear phones are used. When connected to PC, typical msg "Do not Disconnect " is displayed & nothing happens. The display is lit up till battery exhausts. When connected to YDS 10-Yamaha, the receiver displays " unrecognized i-pod"
Resetting I-pod through top switch doesn't help.
What is remedy ?

Have you tried the apple support page? They're usually pretty good about specific fixes for problems. I'd start there before anywhere else.
