Stowaway HD DVDs in Blu-ray Boxes!

Just when you thought the "format war" couldn't get any weirder, HD DVD's started showing up in Blu-ray boxes! Some people that purchased the Blu-ray version of the special edition $100+ box set containing the five Harry Potter movies found an unlikely stowaway - an HD DVD version of the fourth movie Goblet of Fire according to TG Daily. Warner Bros is one of the few studios that is playing both side of the format war though there is speculation that a decision could be in the works. What does this mean? Well, nothing or everything.

From what I've read in press releases recently from different news outlets conerning Warner and the HD disc formats, I would be inclined to believe they are going to drop HD-DVD in 2008. Business Week magazine had a write up about this. However, Warner is now denying that they will go Blu only, but did at the same time say they are staunch supporters of Blu ray. Sounds wishy washy, but I wouldn't be the least surprised if they did go Blu ray only. I just hope one of the formats dies, and dies soon. I have Blu ray because I have a PS3, but if HD DVD emerges as the winner, I wouldn't hesitate for one second in getting an HD DVD player.
