Aperion Speaker Opinions

Hi,
I'm thinking about getting:
2x Aperion Intimus 533-T
1x Aperion Intimus 533-VAC
2x Aperion Intimus 534-SS

Does anybody have them? Auditioned them? They are the right size (especially the center). So that would work for me.
And the other thing is: What is going on with the Impedence on them? The fronts are 5-10Ohms and the Surrounds are 12Ohms. I have the Onkyo 805, would that even work?

Thanks...

I think your building a fine system. I have had Aperion 632 LR Bookshelves for two weeks and LOVED THEM. But, I traded up to the 633 towers. And then went 5.1 with 422 center, 532 LR for surrounds.

Aperion Audio offers the following redeeming features:

1" Hi Density Fiberboard construction, vs. many companies only use 3/4" Medium Density Fiberboard.

30 day audition with shipping BOTH ways if your not happy.

One year Trade in / Trade up deal. Just keep the packing boxes and you can trade, say the 533 LR's up to 633 LR's with full credit on the 533's. Who else does that?

The Piano Black is to behold, simply awesome. I hear the same thing about the Cherry looking more like furniture than speakers.

And the customer support is awesome. Very friendly.

As far as sound goes, at first I thought they were a little bright on the top end, but I cranked them up to reference level for over an hour, and had zero listening fatigue. I'm a bass nut, so I crossed mine over at 80 hz, and set my big Hsu by ear for a "warm" bottom end. During that hour, my remastered Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here" sounded insanely good.

I also have played smooth R&B, new country, and 80's country off the Satellite Dish (XM) and they sound great. Only thing I have not played is rap. I'm very very satisfied with my system, and everybody that hears it comments on the sound quality.

Bottom line: Buy any Aperion speaker and try them out.

Enjoy, and Have FUN :)!

The only ID who offers no cost return shipping. I don't see to much love for Aperion on forums. But for the most part people always seem to dwell on the negative and say their spec's look weak...and that's to bad. IMO you got nothing to lose auditioning these in your home.
Thanks, Ric:)

Yeah, I like the whole 30day trial thing a lot. I think I'm going to let them send me a cherry center to see if the finish will work with my dining room set, which is also cherry. In the pictures the cherry of the speakers looks a lot brighter than my dining room set, but oh well.

The other speakers I'm considering right now are the iQ5s from KEF, which I could get for about the same price, if not a little bit cheaper. I think I would like their finish a little bit better, since it's not gloss.

Has anybody heard both the Aperion and the KEF's? Opinions would be very appreciated!
Thanks a lot!

Your Onkyo will easily drive them fine. The center is 8 ohms, and sensitivity is 88 db 1 watt @ 1 meter.

The bipoles are 12 ohms  And I no nothing about that.

The Towers are 5-10 ohms, with a sensitivity of 89 db 1 watt @ 1 meter. Your Onkyo my grunt down hard, but I'm sure the 805 will drive them.

You know what, I just saw that I can listen to the KEFs in Germany when I'm there in two weeks. I only hope they have the iQ5s so I can listen to them. That way I know what they will sound like and if don't like them, i can always go for the Aperions and send them back, if I don't like them.

I have the 533Ts and love them. They're crisp, clean and clear. I'll be picking the 533VAC center soon. Just have to wait for finances to work in my favor.

The 5-10 ohm rating is probably one of the few times you'll see a real ohm rating. There is no speaker that I have ever heard of that runs at a straight 2, 4, 6, 8 ohm rating. There are always fluctuations. The 805 will have no trouble with these speakers.

Aperion, imho, gets less love because they are not as well known (heard) as the other brands. They sound great and look beautiful.

You will want a sub with these towers. The lower end is not as powerful as some other speakers out there. I still love 'em.

I was thinking about getting either the HSU VTF-2 MK 3 or the VTF-1. Do you think I will need the bigger sub with these speakers or is the 10" enough?

Thanks!

Depends on the size of your room and how much bass you want.

I'll probably just go for the 12", just to be sure.
There are a lot of things that contribute to a subwoofers performance. So just because a subwoofers amp has more watts doesn't make it better. Just because the subwoofers driver is larger doesn't make it better.

A combination of all things, amp, driver, cabinet, crossover, ports, and size, will contribute to the overall performance of a subwoofer.

Wouldn't you think that the bigger version of a sub in the same line would be better (more powerful) though?

From the same manufacturer in the same series yes that might be true. I thought you where just referring to a larger driver thinking it would be better.

A perfect example of my statement is the SVS PB10-NSD. A 10" sub that will out perform many 12" subwoofers.

I see... I was talking about the HSU VTF-3 MK3 or the VTF-2 MK3.

BTW: What do you guys think about getting the matching sub from Aperion (if I go with these speakers) instead of a HSU.
