I'm looking at an Onkyo TX-SR605 with RBH TK-5CT towers for my front speakers. What recommendations/comments would you make regarding these choices and a selection for center channel, sub and rears? I've got a total budget of about $3-3.5K.

Thanks for your advice.

Get the center channel from RBH of the same series as the TK-5TC. You can also get surrounds from the series, but it isn't completely necessary to timbre match the surrounds with your front speakers. The TK-515C is the matching center for that series and the TK-5C is the matching bookshelf you could use as a surround.

I am not totally confident in your choice of receiver however. The RBH TK-5TC is spec'd at 87 dB 1 watt/meter and 8 ohms. It is reasonable to assume that the Impedance could dip far below 8 ohms, possibly down to 4 ohms at certain frequencies. 87 dB isn't horrible in terms of efficiency, but then it isn't great either. I would recommend stepping up to a minimum of the TX-SR705 (which has preouts for all channels for adding amplication if needed), or the TX-SR805 because it is completely compatible with 4 ohm loads.

Have you listened to those RBHs?
They look great and Auioholics gave them a very good review.

Yeah, they don't seem very efficient so I would get a more powerful amp than the Onkyo 605, which are probably best suited for 8 ohms speakers with a sensitivity of > 90dB w/m.

I haven't heard them yet. It's on my "to do" list...So far, I'm going on what I've read on this site as a starting point. If you had $3500 to blow, I mean invest:eek: on speakers and an A/V receiver, what would your choices be?

Thanks for the advice.

Dont ask him that; he will say DTs;)

You need to go audition as many speakers as you can find in your price range and decide what you like.

What about an Onkyo 705 and then you can add a separate amp later on if you need more juice. An emotiva amp comes to mind and would be a better setup than spending more on the receiver which might or might not power them fully.
