Hi guys, how's it going ?
Well, first of all, my name is Frederico so, call me Fred/Freddie or Rico, Frederico is too long :D ( and only my dad does it when he was usually angry :p) . Second, I apologize about my "broken" english, I'm from Brazil but I'm really tryin'.

Here's the deal, We (my wife and I) live in a big condo (Condo, kinda small apt), perhaps, lots of people that could become a problem with noise but, in the other hand, we love movies like everyone here. We do have plans of moving to our own place in a couple years, we hope. I've got an 37" Philips HDTV hooked up to a Panasonic Home Theater, those ones that you buy at walmart, etc. I don't have the model # right now and I know that is not the best "thing" to have but, it does sound's good, I think (I don't really know about the good stuff :( ). Since we've moved in to this apt, my TV had become really small I think, the room is 17 ft to the main listener position, 12 ft wide, 7 ft HT. So we decided move the TV to our bedroom and buy a "wannabe" projector and We need some help from you guys choosin' the best one in our budget, wich is tight for now :(

I'm gonna Upgrade the Picture setup now 'cause the sound I don't think its yet a problem. This is for the living room, we don't use HD DVD yet, my plan is using this set for a couple years until I have my own space. Okay, sorry, it's enough

Firts choice:5PC HOME THEATRE BUNDLE OPTOMA HD65 HD720P+FIXED SCREEN
PROJECTOR+90" FIXED SCREEN+MOUNT+HDMI+COMPONENT CABLE

I couldn't post the link here, buy if you look on ebay would be easy to find this kit, from the seller PROJECTIONDEPOT.
If not this one, go on sellers products and take a look on the other ones, 90" is the max. screen size in my op. I wanna spend max $1.400. Will be for movies only.

Well, sorry about all that, It's really nice to meet all you guys, I'll be posting some pictures of my actual setup soon, nothing great but hey, it's the beggining :)

Best regards,
Fred/Freddie, Rico but, NOT Frederico :D
HA HA HA!

Well, I've found an very helpfull thread from the fellow Chadnliz wich have almost the same questions. Now, I'm Lost. I really don't know if I'm going on the right direction with the PJ, or should I just get an 50", 52" 1080P TV until I get my own place with some sort of dedicated room.

Any comments ?

Projectors are good for people who have the wall space and can control lighting in the room. If you intend to do a lot of daytime or afternoon TV watching you may be better off with a regular TV.

I'm not so sure I'd get a system off eBay, however.

Hi Clint, thks for your reply.

I do have the space on the wall, it's 10'x7' (W, H). The kit that I have mentioned before has an 90" fixed screen, wich would be perfect for the wall, the main seats are 16' away, wich is not bad I think.

About the lightning, we work all day, get home around 9pm almost everyday, the PJ would be only for movies, regular TV w/ hdtv box w/ a 2.1 setup on our bedroom.

What do you think about that ?
Let me know your toughts.

Thks in advance.

I agree with what Clint DeBoer said and I think for your situation if you do want you can get a projector.

Panasonic PT-AX200U is a nice projector for the money, but you do realize that it's 720p only and not full HD?

I found a review link for you.
Yes, I do. Should I wait a couple months and see if prices will settle down a little ? hmmmmmm ......

Thanks for that link, excelent information. A+ to "Calibration", it will make my life easier

I did, thanks for that. Definitely a good option.

I am also in the process of getting an entry level projector and was looking at both the AX200u and the sanyo Z5.
Does anyone know if the 200U has the same iris issues as the 100U? I have seen lots of bad reviews of the 100 because of the iris but not on the 200 yet.

These seem to be just about the same projector as far as price and other things so is the biggest difference the brightness and the warranty?

Hey Rico,\
I just got my Panasonic PTAX100 unit hooked up and running (ceiling mount, manual 84in screen...the whole package was less then $800 with brand new bulb), this unit should be real close to the 200 model so I say go for it...is it perfect?....nope but it is really damn good for the price and a BIG screen for movies really gets you involved, along with my rather high investment in the Audio side of it all ($25,000^) it is a great addition to it all!
I would say jump in the deep end if you can control the light...but sadly you will also want to upgrade you audio side if you go this route......it cant be avoided! Cheers.
