I guess I am just speaking in frustration because I can't seem to find a decent job (or any job at the moment).
Been there; it stinks. You're not in the Seattle area by chance, are you? We probably aren't hiring this season, but that could change in a big hurry depending how busy things get, or we could wind up needing temporary help. If you are local, and if you'd be interested, drop me a resume....

Seven people (nine, really, as this employs me and my wife, too) isn't all that many in the grand scheme of things. But that's nine more than zero; it makes a big difference to the nine of us and to our families; and I'd be surprised if our efforts have hurt competitors enough to put nine other Americans out of work (my guess at the real number would probably be "zero," but of course there's really no way to know). Our economy isn't only about huge corporations; a lot of people in America would be out of work if all the employers with less than ten employees closed tomorrow (and lots of those big companies were small once, too).

Rats, I live too far away. I live in Fort Wayne, IN.:D

Another member here, yettitheman, has hopes of moving to the Seattle area in the near future. Maybe he would be interested.:)

Maybe that's why I'm trying to save as much money as I can and still get good quality equipment: I may not have a job in January :( and I need to get this stuff now before the wife comes down with the clamps. ;)

I'll find out in mid-January if I have another position with my current company. Right now it's not looking too good but I will have a six month severance package (about seven months with vacation, etc.) so I guess that's why the wife's letting me pull the trigger. LOL

Anyway, thanks for all the helpful information. I just took the Circuit City cables back and ordered from monoprice.com and the money I saved I was able to get the TV/HT Stand. :):)

Oh, and I'm sorry Kurt I probably should have ordered through you since you posted in this thread. I'm trying to do everything in a hurry and didn't even think about it. Sorry. :(

I do need a power conditioner though. I returned the Monster Cable one to CC. Can you help me with that?

... I am pretty against internet sales. People complain about Wal-mart taking jobs away from people so they can sell their inventory at lower prices, what do you think the internet sales are doing? Even the giant Wal-mart is hurt by internet sales.....

People seem to think only in short term, "if I get the cheapest thing now, that helps me". Yeah, sure it helps now, but think a few years ahead when you or others you know can't find a good job because eveyone buys the absolute cheapest products off the internet.

Maybe I am just ranting, maybe I am even wrong. That is just how I view internet sales.;)

Yes, you are:D

Competition, flexibility and change. Change is inevitable. Evolutionary :D Stagnation gets you nowhere.

Just think where we are because of the forced competition, brought innovations and sop it goes.

After all, Amazon is mostly/only on line, yet, it has a huge sales force, employs all those folks in the delivery industry, uses huge warehouses. I bet monoprice is not a mom&pop operation out of a garage, right? They most likely rent a brick and mortar place.
WalMart took time to get where they are, slowly grew to be a giant operation that could demand products at their bid prices. GM doesn't buy the highest bidder, right? No business does.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the replies; didn't mean to start a fight or anything about Americans losing jobs, etc. Pretty good discussion though because this goes deeper than just cables.
Cheers,
Couch
No, don't mind us. At times things go sideways but in the end, we all learn something from those discussions as well. When we stop learning, that is the time to dig that 6ft hole or fire up the furnace.:D

Hey, no problem. I was being a little sarcastic when I mentioned starting fights but sometimes that doesn't come across in a discussion forum. I'm just glad there are forums like this around so people can make more informed decisions. It's hard to be an expert at everything. ;)

If you guys ever have any tennis-related questions let me know. :)

Thanks everyone.

Hi. Welcome, even with 18 posts to your name, don't remember reading them.
Stop in more often as your time permits;)
You know, I've been meaning to do that. It is a delicate balance, though. My view of it always has been that people don't want to feel that when they post on a forum, they're going to be beset by sales people; I've seen discussion boards that are dominated by vendors, and I find them pretty useless. So, what I try to do here and on other forums where I post is to only get involved when (1) there's a generic question (e.g., "is component better than s-video?") where nobody'll feel I'm just trying to push cable sales, or (2) there's a mention of us directly which I feel I ought to respond to. This was a "type 2" thread, so I thought I should get my two cents in.

Funny thing, by the way, is that I could swear I've got a number of old posts on AH somewhere; when an issue regarding one of our articles came up a few months ago, I had to set this up as a new user ID in order to respond, but somewhere deep in the member database, I think I have another username...just cannot find it. So, heck, I might actually have 36 posts to my name, if I knew what my name actually was....

Ach! I was just in Fort Wayne this summer. I went to visit Belden (in Richmond, south of you) and to take part in the Studebaker Drivers Club National meet in South Bend (north of you), and I flew in and out of Fort Wayne. I spent some time in town trying to find the brewery there where they used to make Ballantine India Pale Ale, but I think it's been torn down. I asked at a few local liquor stores for the stuff, and they looked at me like I was from another planet, so I think its memory has faded badly.
