Ok guys.

I own a pioneer VSX-4500S receiver and its hooked up to two no name speakers. There is a sticker on them that says. "Acoustic Monitor" (im guessing thats the company?) "digital ready" "dB IV-LIQUID COOLED" They are 3 way speakers. They each have 2 knobs on them allowing u to change the mid range frquency and high range frequency.
-max 125 watts program
- nominal impediance 8ohms
-freq response 43Hz 25 KhZ

Now im really dumb when it comes to this ****. I spent a long time trying to learn how to build speakers and stuff.

When i first gotthese speakers, I didnt want to use them with my old crappy receiver becuase i thought these things needed a more powerful receiver. So i got the pioneer VSX-4500S

So i hooked up the receiver to the speakers with 24 guage speaker wire from radio shack and everything seemed A-Ok.

I went back to turn them on next morning and i cranked them like i did the night before and one of the speakers started slightly smoking... im like **** i dont think their compatible and i just ruined one of my DAMN SPEAKERS. 8(

Now one of my woofers on one of my speakers isnt as loud. (it almost sounds loose) It doesnt punch like my other one does.

Also my receiver wont let my crank the volume above "9" on the volume knob. The audio protection unit kicks in i believe.

The specs for my receiver are as follows:
Pioneer VSX-4500S
- AC 120 V 60Hz
- 510 va
-400w

It can hold 6 speakers total- 4 front speakers and 2 back ones

Im not sure the wattages of each one, its not stated.

Also i couldnt help but notice that tehre is an impediance selector and it i can change it from "A or B 4(horseshoe symbol) to less than 8(horseshoe)" and then the other sleection i can pick is 8(horseshoe or more).

Also.... if u guys know what is wrong with my woofer, id love to get the damn thing fixed... i can do it myself if told how or if tehres somewhere i can send it. Thanks a ton guys.

Sounds like you have an issue with your speaker for sure. Maybe a bad coil on the woofer. You could open the speaker up and see if any thing looks burnt. May be a bad cross-over. Make sure you have the positive and negative leads connected right as well. Could there be a fuse inside of the speaker? Run it at 8 ohms

DICONNECT THE SPEAKERS IMMEDIATELY, DO NOT USE THEM WITH YOUR PERFECTLY GOOD RECEIVER BECAUSE IF YOU CONTINUE TO RUN IT WITH THOSE SPEAKERS SHORTING OUT IT WILL DAMAGE YOUR RECEIVER!

The speaker is damaged and shorting out your receiver (that is why it shuts off at a certain volume). This can and likely will damage the receiver if you continue to use them with that receiver or any receiver for that matter.

The speakers are scam speakers, they are absolute junk and are so aweful that they can damage perfectly good home theater equipment that you put good money into. I say invite some friends over and smash the speakes with a swedge hammer, then set them on fire, and cook some hot dogs.:D

I would then set a budget for getting some new speakers and we will help you anyway we can to get you into some nice speakers that don't pose a risk to your equipment.

You will also need to get a minimum of 16 gauge wire.

Ignore that, just unhook the speakers and toss them out to the curb (trust me, you will be doing your equipment a great favor and you will save yourself some money).

You can trouble shoot the speaker to see if any thing is wrong with it BEFORE you toss it out. Seth=L is assuming much here...

OK, well I have seen the Acoustic Monitor speakers before, and they are absolute bogus crap (white van scams). They have the little knobs for midrange and highs as well. The woofer is shot, because it a piss poor woofer. The receiver you have is a good one, the speaker (90% sure, is to blame). If the problem was the receiver it would not turn on at all. If it was a wire short, the speakers would not have smoked up.

So back to my original statement, toss the speakers, set a budget, get some new ones.

Maybe so...It's still worth a look just for curiosity's sake.
I suppose so, but rest assured they would never be put back into a system.

It seemed urgent, I wonder where he has gone? Maybe he is taking them apart already.:)

One of three things, he was a troll, had something pressing to do, or was offended that he was informed his speakers where a scam.

You were scammed. Sorry.

How much did you pay for these?

Don't waste you money & time repairing speakers that are most likely $5-$15.

Buy real speakers...you will be shocked.

My uncle had these speakers for 10 years and he never had any problems with it. My problem arose when i specially hooked the speakers to the receiever from pioneer

Those scam speakers have been around for a while, he probably just never pushed them past their limits.

They aren't worth fixing, guaranteed.;)

They look alot like a pair of speakers I had when I first got into audio. They were the large 15" paper woofers made by Pioneer. I drove them with a Pioneer receiver. They sounded okay actually. You'll probably have a very hard time finding replcement parts for it.

OooOoO i see. Well the cabinets look pretty bomb and i wanted to build new speakers so... would it be a good idea to gut out the speakers/crossovers etc and just start from scratch building a new rig with the existing cabinets? eh eh? xD
