I have been looking to upgrade my system and have recieved great input from people on this site. During my "research" I noticed a large difference in the contrast numbers. I'll give an example Runco claims 3000:1 vs. jvc 30000:1 (I think my numbers are correct). So I looked into this more and found this article. Hope it may serve as some help for others.

Here is another interesting link for further explanation of ANSI lumen, etc. Special attention to ANSI lumen is a must. It has no real meaning as it has no standard measurement at the appropriate calibrated color temp.

Projector reviews

I would put more weight in real world contrast measurements from reviews like the ones on this site or projectorcentral.com than manufacturers specs. Based on reviews the new JVC 1080p models are some of the top projectors if $5-6k falls in your budget.
