I posted this in the projector forum 2 days ago or so. Never noticed the DIY forum before, so i thought i would repost this here since this is where it belongs.

My buddys infocus screenplay 5000, powersupply failed. A multitude of resitors, and caps are shorted, one exploded in half.

Does anyone have experience working with this powersupply? does anyone know where i can get a schematic, or does anyone know where i can buy a replacement board.

Infocus only sells to authorized repair centers.
The are charging 420$ to fix the projector, not including shipping.

Me and my buddy feel this is overly expensive, considering he only paid 500 for the projector off woot.com last year.

I've attached a picture of it.

If anyone could help me, i'd love you long time :)

Have you tried to get a schematic type manual for that projector, either from the maker or on line searches?
It seems that if you find a schematic, you know which parts failed and just replace them since it is marked on the back of the board. But, one needs to ask the question: why did all those parts blow, a surge, something else down the line?

From what i can tell its pretty common for infocus powersupplys to fry. My guess is they are trying to rip people off on repairs.

They want 420$ to repair it, they do not sell replacement parts, and finding schematics are impossible for me so far.

They also offer no warranty on repairs. I've read a few stories, where people have paid 400+ to have a powersupply on a projector fixed, only to have it break a month later.

I've also contacted multiple repair centers for projectors, all gave me the exact same reply. "sorry we do not sell replacement parts, if we did we would lose our repair contracts, we would be more then happy to repair it for you, please send *insert 300-450$* and the projector to us.

I've never repaired a projector before, but i've repaired many computers and consumer electronics. These prices are outrageous.

If i had a schmetatic this would be a hell of a lot easier. I've got the backround to fix it if i know what it is, but i havnt worked from scratch on a powersupply in 5 years or more. Im way rusty, and im limited in my testing tools as well.

Note to self: Do NOT buy an Infocus projector.

Im am starting to get discouraged :(
Don't see any way out, unless there are others out there who were luckier in finding a schematic. then you can just buy the parts elsewhere.
If not, time to buy another brand. Not even a used will help and robbing the board as it will cost you.

Well, some people seem to have lots of experience with other boards. I was hoping someone would have experience reparing this. If i had better tools i'd try to do it from scratch, but i've got just a basic meter, no scope, not even a logic probe.

Would be tuff fo sure.
