Reccomended Watts for Onix X-ls Bookshelf And Suggestions.

I'm helping a friend out price out a speaker system for his room. It's not a very big room maybe 9 feet wide X 11 feet long. I'll get actual measurements tonight. Anyways I was looking at the Onix X-ls bookshelf speakers. I wanted to know how many watts they handle rms. I want to get the right amplifier for him. Is that how it works still? I used to read about car audio and figured it'd be the same concept. And is there a gauge wire sheet according to watts?

He wants a 2 speaker setup with a sub. Possibly in the future adding a center channel. I don't think he wants to spend more than 350 on the reciever and I'd say no more than 400 for speakers and all wiring. Any suggestions?

I fed them with 125w monoblocks and they were very happy with that in a much larger room. I also drove them with my integrated amp, which is rated at a true 105w in a room a bit larger than that. Though on the less sensitive side, these guys don't need a ton of power. They can handle plenty though.

14 AWG wire will work for nearly all needs in a typical home setting.

For just the 2 speakers, he could look at the Emotiva BPA-1 amp for a very simple setup, unless he has multiple devices to feed it with (DVD, game system, etc...).

He could use a simple 300 buck Yammy 659 or a Onk 605 which would give him more flexibility than the Emo amp.

Since he is going to expand later, a receiver would be a better idea long term, but on the cheap, a simple amp for 2ch will be the lowest money output.

What the heck can you plug into an amp?

Never mind; I see it has a volume control...

I guess he would need something that would power the sub and two speakers. That's all he needs. He said he doesnt want to add any more speakers in the room. The only thing he would consider adding is a center channel. Could someone reccomend the equipment I'd need just for doing this. Maybe a site to browse through.

Can someone reccomend a reciever with HDMI capability. This one does not have it. He just got a PS3 and a 1080p tv. He has the hdmi cable. I'm not sure how that would hook up. I guess there would be video outputs out of the reciever to go to the tv?

Well then he'd want to take a look at the 661 instead of the 659.
